fanfics ate my saturday
Wow. I was going to do a bunch of things on Saturday, none of which happened. Partly it was because I wasn't as over the cold as I was hoping, but partly it was because I read fanfics all day long. It kind of started when I was looking for a particular SGA fanfic. I didn't remember the title or the author, only a kind of vague memory of the story and that it was really good. So...I started looking for it. Of course, looking for meant clicking on lots of fics because "summaries" can often be totally unhelpful, and clicking on fics meant I read them. I read a lot of them until I finally had the realization that night that I was totally looking in the wrong places. And promptly found it in 5 minutes. -_- But at least I found even more good fic (at the cost of the entire day), and I even felt pretty good.
And speaking of fanfics, I found a finished LJ post I hadn't bothered posting for some reason. I really don't feel like editing it to make it work now, so I'll just tack it on at the end of this. XD
+++++
I haven't exactly been going on fanfic hunting/reading marathons, but somehow I managed to get a sizable number of fics to rec, from a very diverse array of fandoms (for me, that is). I need to clear out my tabs (bookmarking and memories are far too logical. my method of keeping fic is that handy-dandy tab feature...).
Three Corners of His Heart by
aishuu is an interesting post-anime DNAngel fic that is mostly het with a bit of slashiness. I haven't seen the end of the anime, but knowing the characters it was interesting to see them in the future.
Ingary Girls by
canis_m is a short but funny Howl's Moving Castle fic featuring Sophie and a unicorn. And amused and amusing bystanders.
The Color of Money by
marksykins is a Fuji + Ryoma (it's supposedly FujiRyo but it feels to me more like a gen fic with gentle innuendo) fic where...bah, I'll just insert the author's summary: "Fuji and Ryoma hustle pool. Really, what else needs to be said?" XDXD
The Internet is the Most Fun You Can Have Without Taking Your Clothes Off by
storyteller is a retarded yet serious TezuRyo fic featuring chatroom logs. Funny funny funny, but it actually gets serious and touching. ^__^
Midnight Radio by
madsciencechick is yet another lovely ConYuu fic. Dreamy and languid and hot in such a refined and natural way.
Two interesting D.Gray-man AU Rabi/Allen drabbles (found via the FST posted recently) where Allen loses his eyesight during their mission to find Cross. It's not really slashy (which I don't go for in this fandom) but it oozes melancholy and is haunted by what has been lost and what will be lost in the future (at least, to me). First one by
sennuyer, second by
nagisathesis.
Hikaru's Game by
flonnebonne, an amazing Hikago/Ender's Game crossover that works so, so well. *_*
Another interesting AU by
flonnebonne, this time Pot. Endgame supposes if Ryoma's tennis had been perfect to begin with...Short but intriguing.
And finally, a non-AU Hikago, this time pure hilarity: Mr. Dress Up. Oh, the joy.
And I've also been reading a whole bunch of SGA fics again. I realized why I love reading this fandom even though I barely have any idea what's going on. The best fics balance humor and snarkiness with seriousness and drama (and smut) so well. The way the different characters, not only Rodney and John, banter is just wonderful. I adore fandom Zelenka. I'm almost afraid to see the real thing because...can he measure up? Really? I feel much pity for Kavanaugh. I don't know if it's because I haven't been subjected to his jackassness as the fanfics imply or because he is just pitiful. in any case,
rageprufrock updated the delicious Mummy/SGA crossover Sky Full of the other day. She just has a way with words, and it works so well in that prim British gentlemen Rodney POV she has going in it. Part 3, and it's going to be more than four parts!
