fall anime!

OMG OMG OMG I am going to become a huge Miyano Mamoru fan at this rate. I downloaded the raw Death Note episode 1 and...well...was on the whole blown away. I can't compare it to the manga as I barely remember how it began so I can only judge it for itself. I really like the opening, and I love the chanting in the beginning of the episode. The anime itself looks very very nice, the music isn't overwhelming, and....I love Light's voice. Not sure if it fits the character for those who love the manga and/or the character but it certainly works for me (I know very well that I'm totally biased). I don't know if the voice (and the pretty animation) will make me like the character, but...I'm thinking it's possible now. *_*

One thing I thought sucked in the movie that is very well represented in the anime is the shinigami Ryuk. He was barely around in the movie (at least the first half of it), but here he's right there. I felt like they could have written him out in the movie, he was (to me) so extraneous.

So Yamaguchi Kappei plays L? I only know him in roles such as Inuyasha and Ranma and...it's hard to extrapolate his performance as L from those. I hope he kicks ass, though.

I also downloaded and watched the sub of D.Gray-man.

So far I like Kobayashi Sanae as Allen. It's only been one episode but she has that..."very nice boy" quality to her voice that seems to work.

I tried not paying attention to the subtitles but one thing that annoyed me? They subbed a クレア as "CREA." I don't know how the manga translated it, but since it's England I'd think it'd be the most logical to assume her name is "Claire." ;_;

In any case, it's a good thing I saw D.Gray-man first because Death Note trumps it in the production values department. The animation, the music (which to me was cheesy), the editing...It depressed me because I like the manga. The first episode follows the manga fairly faithfully, changing some minor details. In fact, when I went back to the manga afterwards, the shots were exactly the same most of the time. The problem? At least for this episode, things look so much better as a black and white manga. The anime in general felt cheesy and silly, while the manga (I think due to the monochrome color scheme and the fact that there are only still shots) conveys something more of an atmosphere rather than...whatever the anime conveyed. *sighs* I hope it improves. Fast.

On the other hand, I have a feeling I'm going to get addicted to the opening. It's that kind of song.

While searching for something else online, I came across one blogger's comments on this fall's anime and took a look. Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion? I...laughed watching the trailer made me laugh because it could be...so overdone, so badly. But I'll take a look. I like the character designs (yes, I am a CLAMP whore). I like angsty mecha anime. I hope it's good.

I've seen Shonen Onmyoji novels all over the place and thought the illustrations were pretty but had never picked it up. I'll check it out to see what the story is like. I couldn't find a stinkin' trailer but I think it will broadcast soon so I can just wait till then. :P

I am amazed I even care about the season's anime. Perhaps I'm swinging back into the anime side of things again.

I need to watch Ouran 25 and 26...the other day a second RL friend brought it up and we weren't able to talk about it because I hadn't seen it yet.
