Q: What does one do when tired and sweaty and tired?
Answer: Ramble!
I suppose it is not a good time to bitch with Rita bearing down and all, but having a typhoon swing past and dump rain in Tokyo really sucks. It is a bit cold, yet humid and just plain icky. *sighs* Does not help that I think I am getting sick. I am so glad the Japanese do not believe in really strong AC. It is so sad just how much I miss the net in general and LJ in particular. Can we all say addicted?
First things first--does anyone know if the Nana movie is any good? Most importantly, can it be understood and enjoyed by someone who has not read the manga? It is playing at a theatre five minutes away from the hotel and I am sort of tempted...I am also tempted by the Japanese-dubbed Initial D movie at another theatre close by. I wonder if they got the same voices from the anime to dub it?
I can not believe how badly I felt after the flight. I hate airplane flights. Thank goodness Hawaii is not that far from Japan...eight hours was more than enough. I do wish the airport was closer to Tokyo itself, though. I hate having to spend another two hours to get to my hotel. I felt awful after that whole ordeal. And I had cabin fever. I decided the best way to pass the time was to read a book (my usual method) but the only unread book I really wanted to read was HP6...so I lugged it onto the plane and devoured it in very little time. Damn, that was much better than book 5. ^_^ If only I had not read the first half before even getting on the plane and finished the rest in like an hour or two...
In any case, even though I was dead tired I had to go get some food. Ate some decent bibimbap (or however you spell it) then immediately headed for Manga no Mori. I had gotten in really late, after most of the shops had closed, but I happened to know that Manga no Mori stayed open till at least 10 and the exact location. I ended up spending almost an hour browsing around. The good thing about that store is that they do not seal their wares, and do not drive out people standing there reading. Ended up buying a novel to read for the next day since it was an hour commute to the event.
Friday was of course the main event of the trip, the TezuRyo Only. The weather was nice, if too hot and humid. Found out that they were doing staged entry for the general public. I managed to get in during the first stage, at 11. They gave out a pair of disposable chopsticks with 柱 (hashira, means pillar) as souveniers of the event. What I really wanted was the shirts the staff were wearing, that had the 柱 with a 人 tacked on in front of it, making them human sacrifices. XD In any case...I swear, I spent waaaaay too much money at the event. There were not that many artists whose worked I liked, but I ended up buying tons of random novels. I look forward to reading them. The only annoying thing was that two of the circles I had especially wanted to buy stuff from was late. So late, in fact, that they were not there in time for the second entry. I had to leave and wait an hour for the general entry time to buy the books from the two circles. I was so happy to see so many TezuRyo fans, though. I know the first entry alone had at least 200 people (I think).
In any case, lugged my loot back to the hotel, then hit the stores....and spent an ungodly amount of money again. And again. And again. I bought so much doujinshi. The problem was that I was randomly buying Mirage of Blaze DJ along with the usual, and I ended up buying random DJ in random fandoms because of the covers. Picked up several D.Grayman ones, as well as some KKM and one Gundam Seed (Destiny?). The D.Grayman ones just had...the cutest covers. One was stunning. The circle, Houseki-Hime, was one I had always admired the art of (they did Hikago and FMA) but never bought because I do not like HikaAki and I do not buy FMA DJ...but I absolutely HAD to buy this one simply for the cover. I later opened it to find out it was a novel, which disturbs me. I had skimmed their Hikago fanfics and they were...disturbing. And this DJ had a NC-17 rating, too...but even if I do not get around to reading the novel I can say with confidence that the cover alone was worth the price. I opened one of the KKM ones and died laughing. It was...wonderful. I am tempted to buy another copy to scan, since it only costs about $4 and it is ConYuu with perfectly characterized Wolfram thrown in. With nice art. I have to get around to checking out the others. The Gundam Seed (Destiny?) one I got was only because I swear the art looks like Odagiri Hotaru...I have to open it and see...
I am sad to say that the PoT and Hikago sections are steadily shrinking at the various DJ stores. ;_; I did manage to pick up some great ones, though. XD
Also sad to say that the anime goods right now do not interest me at all. I suppose in the long run it is a good thing because DJ are sucking my money like there is no tomorrow. I totally have blown my budget for the trip already. :P
I did learn a painful lesson. When buying suits always look at the price of the jacket, not only the bottom. I died when I found out the price of the jacket was much much much more than I had expected based on the price of the bottom. This was after I had tried them on, fell in love, then told the very nice salesgirl that I was going to buy. *sighs*
Well, I guess I should get going soon. I am so going to read the PoT and Hikago novels I managed to get my hands on today. XDXD

On the other hand? I sometimes like it as it keeps the crazy away.
