xxxHOLIC movie at last!
I downloaded a xxxHOLIC raw DVD rip the other day, and finally decided at a very ungodly hour of the night to watch it last night. It was probably not a good idea, but lately I've been doing lots of things that aren't good ideas so what else is new? In any case, the file, an .mkv, totally choked on my computer but I kept watching anyhow. There's a sub that's an avi file now, so I'm going to download that and hopefully watch it without the pixelization and other fun stuff I had to contend with the first time around (torrent).
The music is very nice. Though the song playing when the title came up? Reminded me a bit too much of the Harry Potter movie theme. ^^; I think I might buy the CD. I've seen a copy at my local Japanese book/music store and was constantly tempted to buy it even though I didn't know what it sounded like...
In any case, I'm not sure I like the character designs animated. Their unnaturally long body proportions were even more emphasized in the anime version, and frankly their arms reminded me of gorillas at times. Yuuko's breasts looked like they were sagging half the time. But she did look VERY cool at times, which almost makes up for the sagging breast thing. Their droopy eye thing didn't quite work animated for me, either.
I like their voices. Watanuki and Himawari aren't too high, Doumeki is perfect. At first I was thrown off by Yuuko's voice because I thought it was kind of high, but I grew to like it. I assume the same cast will be in the TV series?
The story...hmmm...Overall, I thought it was kind of weak. You know, how they try so hard to fill the movie screen and the expectations an audience may have and don't quite make it work? Cowboy Bebop was kind of like that for me, except that I just took the movie as just another episode....just longer. In any case, there were moments that totally worked, but many others that didn't. The main conflict of the story was...rather weak. At least, for me. And there were times when Watanuki's spazzes really threw the timing of the scene askew...
In any case, objectively looking at this movie? I was underwhelmed. But I am very happy with the casting, so not all is lost. Now I can hear those voices when I read the manga (just got volume 7, so perfect timing).
Speaking of CLAMP, the most recent Tsubasa chapter has Kamui appearing at the end! I've totally not been following that manga (I just read it when the tankobon come out) but I'm tempted to just start right now. I hope Fuuma appears too! And that they are raburabu (with or without Kotori) and not too angsty...
Oh, and another thing. Speaking of DVD rips of movies, does anyone have a torrent link to a DVD rip of the FMA movie? It must be out by now...
