the new hp?

Has anyone read the Percy Jackson series? The first book, The Lightening Thief, is coming out as a movie next week. The trailer was, frankly, a turn-off...But I'm wondering if the books be worth checking out...

i know a little kid (8) who likes it more than HP, but i know an older person (late 20's) who didn't think it was as good as HP. Maybe it's a book to borrow from the library first. :)

I've read the first book and am partway through the second. They are fun but I find the first-person narration a bit off-putting.

Oh, it's first-person...I don't mind that as long as the narrator doesn't drive me crazy. I assume it's the main character?

Does the feel of the movie trailer jive with the books?
