braaaaaains...

Erg, haven't posted in forever. Unfortunately my laptop is not working properly (battery life is shot and it heats up like crazy pretty quickly) and my ipad is awesome for consumption. Instead, I've been collecting Generation Kill fics that I'm just going to post without reworking the blurbs for the fics (some are just cut and pasted from the author's summary ^^;). I got on the recent kick thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine's rec of a fusion with A Companion to Wolves. XD

I've also been rereading my manga/books and been finding out that some just suck. One that was particularly distasteful was Keijijou na bokura by Kawai Touko. Holy crap those kids are emo woobies...I doubt I liked it all that much when I first read it because it reminds me all to much of Cut, another emo manga by her I have never warmed to.

Of course the cat finds a nice cozy spot in the nicely folded, newly laundered sheets.

This is pretty cheap and pretty good. Smooth milk chocolate!

Strawberries + Grand Marnier + sugar + vanilla ice cream = super fabulous breakfast!

Last week I bought a nice ripe tomato and fresh mozzarella and made Caprese Salad several times. I bought more nice ripe tomato (this time an oddly shaped, purple heirloom one) and more fresh mozzarella but ran out of basil and wanted something different, so I looked around the internet and found a recipe for a Tomato Mozzarella Sandwich. I used garlic sourdough bread and OMG it was so good! So easy, so divine! Naturally I forgot to take a picture of it. ^^;

Which in Your Case You Have Not Got by dira, A Companion to Wolves fusion AU. So all the Marines are soul-bonded with wolves. So cool.

Logic Modeling by dark_reaction. Space Opera AU with Brad as an AI.

Après moi le deluge by Lake (beyond_belief). Relationship: Brad Colbert/Nate Fick. Additional Tags: Soul Bond.

for the peace of you I hold such strife by vegarin. Nate struggles with yet another superfluous mission. Takes place within Stay Frosty.

Backfire by whizzy

No Glory In Battle Worth the Blood It Costs by Kahtya Sofia. Brad is severely wounded during battle in Afghanistan. The real fight begins once he’s home.

Like It Was Yesterday by Kahtya Sofia. In the aftermath of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Brad and Nate lost touch. Years later, Brad is an experienced, jaded Staff Sergeant on yet another tour in Iraq. He wonders why and how he’d let Nate slip away, until circumstances with dark implications have Brad babysitting a civilian investigation.

Life in Abeyance by vegarin. As with everything in Iraq, this moment was also an exercise in tempering want and need.

The Fruits of Civilization by puckling. It was far too easy to imagine Nate Fick (and then, in the privacy of Brad’s head, with his dick in his hand, he could be Nate) fucking himself instead.

Something You Miss by fiddleyoumust. I suck at these. Brad and Nate are in love, they angst, Brad does a lot of thinking, they angst some more. :D?

The Fisherman and the Merman, or The Time Brad Learned Mermen Were Real (and Hot!) by Signe. When Brad decided to become a fisherman, he took a two day hike, cut down a tree in the forest, dragged it home (okay, he borrowed a pony to help pull it — he's strong, not superman), and made a boat out of the tree. I'll give you a moment to stop and think about that.

the ending earth by Signe. They both know, both have fallen a little in love and a little in hate with this country, and they understand that's how it is. That's all that matters.

the geometry of life: a story in two parts by Signe. This is the story of two men. The one who stayed and the one who never truly left.

and my glory shall be love by Lake. There is little that Agent Mike Wynn takes more seriously than the life of Vice President Nate Fick. When the number of death threats starts to climb, he calls in the one person he's sure he can trust, USMC Sgt. Brad Colbert, and assigns him the 24/7 task of being the Vice President's shadow.

Raising Company Morale by mistresscurvy

Celebration Guns by starlurker. It's oddly disjointed and nicely distanced.

I rode away from your station by imogenedisease. The third time they're drunk and sloppy, and it barely warrants mentioning.

And I can't let go by noelia_g. AU in which the guys are in the military but they also have superpowers. Nice mix of humor and drama.

What I'm Up Against by PJVilar. Best line ever: "Go ahead. Be dirty again. I'll moan or something this time."

Take A Complicated Situation, Unfuck It, and Then Make Do by I_Lovetherain. AU in which Brad and Nate are a couple who get saddled by Brad's kids when Brad's ex-wife dies. I am a sucker for not-crappily done stories where kids complicate a couple's world and this is one of them.

Let Thy Cases and Shelves Be Thy Pleasure Grounds and Gardens by KahtySofia, Library AU with LIbrary Sex.

The Night Air Supply Saved The World by Kahtya Sofia is as hilarious as the title would make it seem. Air Supply really does save things (if not quite the world).

Semper Cume Scuto (Always With The Shield by Kahtya Sofia is a long fusion with Marvel Comics world. Fun, if fluffy.

Thanks for the GK recs! I've falled behind with fandom, so half of these are new for me (and I have tomorrow off, already planned for fic reading, what a happy coincidence ^_^).

You're welcome! Hope you like some of them. (Not all of them are good, btw. Some are mildly entertaining or merely not crappy or annoying.) I fall behind in this fandom as well, then go on a fic binge sporadically. Where do you usually find fics in this fandom?

[identity profile] ladysunflow.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
I have low standards - as long as the characters aren't talking like high school girls (unless it's an on-purpose AU :D), I'm good.
As for finding new fics, [livejournal.com profile] alethialia posts good recs, and then I check if the authors she recced, or authors I've read before, have posted something new. There's also the GK category over at Archive of Our Own but you obviously went through that :)
