BL RABU

This was the annual BL issue. First off, the lovely lovely cover:

I am totally not familiar with the manga artist, Sasaki Kumiko, but WOW. A quick search on amazon japan shows she's done both novel illustrations and manga (the manga include Limit, Mystic, Suzu no oto ga kikoeru and Tsukigasa...are any of these any good?). Love how she draws both guys, and I love her coloring. XD

There's an article about a well known all male acting troupe putting on "Banana Fish" (according to the article they've done "There were 11" and "Saiyuki" before). I've never read the manga but have heard tons of good things about it (if nothing specific...I've mainly heard "it's good!" etc.)

A lovely pic of Ranmaru and Kei I've never seen before for the LONG special Kodaka Kazuma interview. Though I don't like the guy very much, I particularly like Kei's pose, of how he's looking at the reader from behind his glasses.

In any case, the actual BL feature was cool. They polled their readers as usual, and the results:

Coupling types:

1. Age difference
2. Master and servant
3. Gekokujou (juniors dominating seniors; retainer supplanting his lord )--I can't help but think of that dork from Hyotei when I see that phrase ^_^;
4. Teacher and student, alternatively master and apprentice

Genres, content:

1. Happy endings
2. Pure love
3. Sweet
4. Heartwarming

Genres, setting:

42%-School (DUH)
34%-Working adults (Riiman, anyone?)
10%-Fantasy
10%-Historical
4%-Others

Semes:

1. Younger
2. Glasses
3. Hetare
4. Brute

Ukes:

1. Glasses
2. Oyaji (older...middle aged...)
3. Boisterous, mischievous
4. Manly

Items (Accessories):

1. Glasses
2. White coat, such as a doctor's
3. Military uniform
4. School uniform

I am so typical, I suppose. Most of the favorites totally push my buttons. ^_^; I have to confess...I wish incest was up there, too. Yes, I love incest. XD Fascinating that glasses comes up as a favorite accessory as well as a type of seme and uke.

I love ukes with glasses who are older than the seme. It's a plus if the seme is a student and the uke a teacher. XD Though something about glasses in general... But all of the favorites are my favorites too. So I'm pretty typical as well... ^_^

I've never read Banana Fish either. I've heard good things though.

I am so there with you on older ukes with glasses. I guess glasses are a universal thing with fangirls?

Banana Fish definitely my favourite manga all the time. Here is Banana Fish fansite (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/okumura/callenreese/yoshida/yoshidaindex.html) made by Tomita-san. :D

If you don't mind, may I ask the bigger size of Banana Fish article ? Thank you so much. :D

I had to rescan (I don't keep big sizes of scans on my computer as a rule):

Out of curiosity, what kind of magazine is Pafu? Is it a manga industry journal?

[identity profile] insaneneko.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not really a manga industry journal...I think of it as a magazine catering primarily to fangirls. Manga, anime, doujinshi (mini recs of doujinshi in every issue, as well as lists of doujinshi events for the month), drama cds, etc. Interviews with manga artists and seiyuu, and features like the boy's love one in the current issue. Lots of ads for mostly BL publications, and a list of all comics published for the months.

So it's more like a BL review magazine? Or shoujo revue?

Mostly BL, but also shoujo and shonen (anything that a fangirl would be into, basically).
