As for the difficulty level of Japanese compared to other languages, I'm reminded of what sensei (the one who isn't Japanese) used to tell the students in my class who complained: 難しいと思ってるの? じゃあ、フランス語にしよう! >:E
(She is of the opinion that while it contains some difficult elements, the fact that Japanese has grammatical rules with few deviations makes it one of the easier languages to learn. I agree since I still can't make head or tails of English grammar, native speaker or no. ^_^;)
