Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xandra, I got all of Empty Heart, which turned out to a good, sweet romance. The surprise was the good amount of sex in it, too. Rounded out with nice art, it was very satisfying. ^_^ Too bad that, as far as I can tell, the artist doesn't have any more manga out. She has done novel illustrations, but I have no idea if she has done any anthology work. Ah well.

Saturday turned out to be a clear, sunny day, as if the pouring, awful rain of the night before had been some dream. One of my friends had use of a townhouse at a resort through work, so we all went over. Most of the people enjoyed the pool, then we had dinner and played HOURS of Texas Hold'em. We've always played poker, but that particular game has become popular through those televised world poker and celebrity poker tournaments and some friends have become hooked. I personally don't care for Texas Hold'em and much prefer variations of seven card stud. Though I did get one really good hand--I had two eights in the hole, then the other two eights came up in the flop! I had a four of a kind already, and it looked really unlikely that someone was going to get a straight flush to beat me from the cards down. I did win a decent pot from that. (For some reason, that reminds me of the time I witnessed a cruel joke of fate. I was sitting out a game of Anaconda, and one person was dealt a natural royal flush that she had to break up. She was very unhappy, and showed it to me before she passed her three cards. That was certainly memorable and very painful.)

In any case, I was more interested in the DVD-put-on-in-the-background, the pilot of Battlestar Galactica. I had never seen it myself, but everyone else I know has, so I was very curious about it. It was, admittedly, terribly dated in some ways but overall very enjoyable. I found out that Starbuck is rather stupid. I had no idea what he was like, but I don't think I was expecting stupid. Don't know why he's so popular with the ladies. And I also didn't know the storyline was that, well...bleak. Near total annihilation of your people is certainly a way to start a series with a bang. I just might borrow someone's DVD box set and watch the entire thing...really bad special effects and all. ^_^;;
