fanfic-ing
Nov. 9th, 2004 11:02 amSpeak of the devil, today on a morning show they had a feature about how poker is popular in Hawaii now. I had to laugh at the timing. I hope these people don't only play Texas Hold-em and discover the fun of the varieties of poker and the joy of making up your own rules.
I spent the last two days rereading all the fics on a TezuRyo fanfic site that is full of very sweet, achingly sweet, gives you a toothach they are so sweet fics (Bobu-ane no kobeya if anyone is interested), and feel happy and satisfied. I think I'll go clean up the translations I did of two of the fics, even though they will just sit on my hard drive after that. I don't think I captured the feel of the fics very well in English...or maybe I'll just reread all the fics one more time...Sometimes sap is good. ^_^
I really do like TezuRyo fics that span many years, so that the main action of the story occurs five, ten, even fifteen years into the future. Many of the fics I've read were either where they had been together that whole time and their relationship is very comfortable and mature, or where something or another happened way back when and it is only after several years that their paths cross again. I've read many good ones along those veins, and wish I could find more. Depending on how the author decides to go at it, the stories can be wistful, meloncholy, sweet, regretful, or full of a very understated and quiet joy.
Speaking of TezuRyo, the AU fic I've been desperately waiting for was updated yesterday...and it was one of those "cut from main action and focus on something else that is totally different but will probably converge with the main story" chapters...*sigh*...this fic really feels like it's going to be long and really complicated. I can only hope she finishes it.
The most recent chapter of "Innocent World" was really odd. It was basically interaction between Hikaru and Yong-Ha with the POV alternating between them. The previous chapters were from Su-Yong's POV, so even if the two of them didn't understand each other of course the readers would know what is being said. The author decided to just have all of the dialogue in Japanese, but with the understanding that Yong-Ha was actually speaking Korean and that they didn't understand each other. It actually worked really well. While the reader understood everthing, the "conversation" between the two really seemed like two people talking at each other. It made an already tense and complicated situation even more messed up.
