Engrish and other randomness

Okay, I spent a long time today checking out Engrish.com, dedicated to the wonders of English (mis)use in Japan...I laughed pretty hard at many, and were just...confused at others. One of my favorites is a shirt that said "Fish Farms Fuck Fish." There are many, many others, though.

I also dozed off...and I swore off daytime naps! *sigh* I hope I can sleep tonight...

I have been spectacularly unproductive these last couple of days, translation-wise. Spent some time last night playing with Photoshop Elements and learning (slowly) how to use it. *sigh* Just gotta practice, I suppose...

Next I want to learn IRC. I think I'm going to try out Snak as it seems to get very good reviews overall. It's shareware, yes, but I like stable and well-developed. :P Of course, that's if I can learn the thing...which might be my project over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend.

Honorifics and exchange rates suck

Okay, I got off my lazy butt and wrote several emails...first to Asa Yoriko to thank her for her fabulous DJ, then two more to request more DJ. One is a sequel to the AkiHika Indiana Jones AU I enjoyed so much.

I realized after writing two emails (wherein I again was struck by how I SUCK at writing Japanese...especially when I attempt to use polite language), I had been using the less formal -moraimasu when I should have been using -itadakimasu...and I had to smack my head. I hate hate hate honorifics!!

And another thing I realized is that I have to buy more yen...and the exchange rate SUCKS. Damn the stupid trade/budget/whatever deficit that is contributing to this weak dollar!! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET MY YAOI FIX WHEN EVERYTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE!!

GAAH.

I blame it all on Bush.
