mind all over the place

I so should not be awake now, but the sun shines brightly into my room by 6:30 in the summer...during workdays this is not a problem because I'm awake by then, but on the weekends? I'd like to at least sleep until 8. Is that too much to ask? ;_;

Well, someone on bl_dramas (re?)posted the second Only the Ring Finger Knows cd drama here. Now my summary has something to refer to. ^_^

B-Plot by prillalar, a series of conversations mostly between Momoshiro and Ryoma...well, more like Momoshiro bitching about something or another in regards to Kaidoh. The end is just perfect, too! Go, Fuji-sempai! XD

I kinda feel sorry for Horio. Kinda.

Okay, I'm finally getting excited about my trip. Got my tickets and hotel reservation information in the mail this week, and Pira's been showing such lovely scans of the Loveless shitajiki and stationary she got...I must get my own! I am such a stationary whore collector, I will be getting all that I can from the current running anime such as Loveless and Tsubasa (and I hope xxxHOLIC) as well as any nice manga goods available. I wasn't planning on going to many Animates, but that'll have to change because each store stocks slightly different items. *sighs* And here I thought my time would be focused almost exclusively on manga, books and doujinshi.

I don't know why I keep buying goods, I don't really have the room for the stuff. Even stationary...I don't even write to many people nowadays...but I know I'll still buy two of each set, one to keep and one to use. :P Thanks to that silly habit of mine, I have unopened stationary sets from all the past series I've loved, from Kenshin to Angel Sanctuary. I should go dig them out and admire them, since I don't do anything else with them lately. :P

I was foolishly up late last night and caught that shogi/go program late at night. It's interesting to see one young, fairly cute female pro and one normal but high ranking male pro paired up for shogi and go. I wonder if this is a new phenomenon or did they only capitalize on cute femaleness after Hikago? In any case, the fifth Juudan game (fifth defense of the title against the current Honinbou) was played at the Nihon Kiin. I squealed like a foolish fangirl when I saw the building because it's so familiar looking. :P The disappointing thing is that they didn't play in the Yuugen no Ma and instead played in this rather ugly modern looking room on chairs. The Honinbou looks so like a pro from Hikago. He had disheveled hair, the oddest mustache, and this almost constipated look on his face (well, he was about to start playing, it must have been his "game face"...is the Juudan a 5-game or 7-game series?). The current Juudan looked normal. I again squealed in delight when they nigiri'ed and started playing with that crisp pachi! sound. XD

I fear the number of comments I haven't replied to. It just keeps piling up every day...wish I could just relax and fangirl today, but once again more work! Yay! At least I'm getting paid OT...more money to buy things in Japan with! (If I try really hard to think of it in a positive way will it suck less?)

stupid musings

I don't really have the time to explain how I got to this point, but for the last half hour I've been wondering how the line "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" got translated into Japanese. I've never read the book and only seen the movie, so I can only hear Clark Gable utter those lines. We supposedly have a copy of the Japanese version somewhere in the house and I might have to dig it up and go look through it to find out. Why does my mind get stuck on these stupid little trivialities?

The train of thought that led to this was actually not very trivial. Too bad it would be far too time consuming to put down in words. :P

question for translators

I finished a initial "this will see the light of day over my dead body" rough translation and was thinking about how it'll have to go through many rounds of revisions before it's presentable, when I started wondering how other people translate. Those of you who translate, what is your process? Mine is basically do the initial "this...body" rough draft that is pretty awful, with missing words, phrases, sometimes whole sentences, absolutely horrendous grammar and other unmentionables, then go back and revise and proof and fill in. I'll work on parts that seem workable in that round, and go back to the parts I skipped in later rounds. I usually go through four to ten rounds before it's presentable. Do most people go slowly and carefully, working on each sentence and doing the best on each one before moving on to the next? I sometimes feel my way is so inefficient. :P

But then, I realized that that's how I used to take tests in school. Do the problems I know, skip the "hard" ones, then go back through in passes until time runs out. Am I stuck in my test-taking mode when I translate?
