fairly productive sunday!
Jun. 5th, 2005 11:03 pmPhew. Got a lot done today (if not enough). Did a bunch of laundry and set aside a good amount of clothing to pack. Still have to find more things to take, and drag out the suitcases and actually pack though. Started on my lists and making good progress on that. Even cleaned the house a bit (looking for my plane tickets and things ^_^;). I'm tired now....
I was flipping through an issue of Pafu from last year that I dug up in my cleaning, and saw that it had a Yamane Ayano feature with an interview. What I enjoyed the most was her response to a psychological test using her characters. It consisted of a square with three rows and three columns with nine squares. From the top, left to right, the squares read (Row 1): Respect, Ideal, Want to marry, (Row 2): Like, Myself, Want to be liked by, (Row 3): Friend, Don't think of as a guy, A weird guy. She responded (Row 1): Liu Fei Long, Asami Ryuichi, Takaba Akihito, (Row 2): Mizuno Ayumu (or Susumu, from Koi suru shokubutsu), Yamane Ayano, Hiyama Takahiro (from Koi suru shokubutsu), (Row 3): Al Valentiano (no clue how to romanize his name), Oumi Ranmaru, Gondou Ryuuji. I love her comments when she looked at her own responses: "Hahaha, Gondou is a weird guy, absolutely. Asami my ideal...I don't want such a scary guy (laugh). Though he might be as a seme...I wonder if I'm drawn to bad men? I can be affectionate to Akihito. I want to be liked by Hiyama-kun...Kind of like if there had been a guy like this when I was in high school, with Mizuno-kun easy to befriend. I respect Fei Long (laugh). It's possible to switch Al and Gondou, isn't it? I might view Ranmaru like a little brother. I'm an oldest sister, after all." Her choices are fascinating, but it's her own comments to her responses I enjoyed the most. Al is a weird guy, indeed. I found it odd that she respects Fei Long. I'm not surprised her "ideal" is Asami (even as she herself kind of rebels against the idea). XD The actual interview was also pretty interesting. I wonder if someone's translated it already? It was from over a year ago...
Found THE BEST JAPANESE REVIEW OF MIRAGE OF BLAZE EVER. Okay, maybe it's not the best...But it was informative AND wonderfully fangirly. I love the examples of famous lines from the series, with selective bolding for emphasis. I love how the reviewer personally dubbed the series "KING OF HOMO" (in English). XDXDXD
Decided to check out Westy Park, a Japanese Gundam Seed fanfic site I hadn't been to a while, and read a wonderfully depressing short AU called "A gentle sadist." The author notes that she wrote it thinking how a frail slave is like a broken off flower. It's a fascinating yet sad look into the mind of a (sex) slave who's given up on life completely. Though he himself doesn't realize or care, it's obvious to the reader (and to the servants) that his master cares for him. Even as the master hurts him (the sadist part), he takes care of him (the gentle part). I love two lines in the fic very much, one spoken by the master: "...how ironic, that you should admire a broken off flower..." and at the end as the slave contemplates his master's words. He is told that he would be freed eventually. But he doesn't want to be freed. To him, the only true release is when he is freed from his meaningless life. "The only right he had was to return this body that had been born with no soul breathed into it. He had long suppressed his heart, dreaming of that day." Ah, how beautifully depressing....It really has nothing to do with the Gundam Seed characters, really, but it was a lovely story nonetheless.
And...now I sleep! A bit early! Yay!
