babble babble babble
Feb. 9th, 2007 11:17 pmOMG I just spent the last two days (the parts of it not spent sleeping, working, or commuting) skimming a series and having just finished the last one I am filled with a feeling of pure joy. There just aren't enough good BL novel series that's a real series, multiple books following the same characters, rather than books loosely linked by connected characters or books with the same theme. I bought the first two books to try the series out, had some problems but had a very favorable impression, was waffling on buying more (the rest), heard the CD drama and died laughing, decided to go for it and bought it all, thanked the gods that Amazon Japan was doing DHL International shipping and updated the tracking info every half hour, drove home like mad when I found out the box was delivered (at a whopping 10 mph, damn traffic...) and....well, spent every moment in the last two days when I wasn't sleeping, working, or commuting (okay, I confess, I am one of those dangerous people that occasionally read while driving...But only in stop and go traffic, I swear! And only sometimes...). Sadly, even at work my mind was on overdrive trying to come up with the intro to a post on the series. I am hoping to post something this weekend...If I don't get caught up in rereading the books (since I was so impatient I really whizzed through them...) or something.
Oh oh oh, I almost forgot to mention that Otonage by Kano Shiuko came out this month! Of course I found this out like two days after I placed my latest order...Grrrr....But I am so happy the new volume is out! I want!
Speaking of Kano Shiuko, I have to say that artist is one of those artists whose manga I never know if I'll love or feel completely indifferent to until I read it. I do like that she puts her own stamp on the characters, even when they are more or less stock. But it seems half the time I end up not caring about or just plain disliking her characters and their relationships. I love Aniki Joutou and Namaiki/Kawaige (though in Kawaige I completely skip over the parts with that couple that isn't Mejiro and Nakano), and one or two volumes of her short stories. But a lot of them really don't do anything for me. Another one to add to the pile is Punch, which I only realized afterwards was related to P.B.B. I've never read P.B.B. and I don't think I want to at this point. I felt like the characters didn't make connections with each other or with me. The only positive in the manga? The cats!! Referring to having cats meet for potential breeding as "neko omiai"!!
One of the books I bought to fill out my BK1 order was Koi suru Bokun (The Tyrant Who Fall in Love) by Takanga Hinako. It seemed pretty popular, the art looked nice, and I decided to go for it even though I hadn't read Challengers. Well...seme boy I adore, completely and totally. Uke boy....god, talk about an annoying example of tsundere gone wrong. He really grated on me, does he get any better later? I'm not sure I want to bother getting more if he's more of the same. I wanted to yell at seme boy that he could do SO MUCH BETTER.
Er, it just occurred to me that my very large Amazon Japan order in fact contained more books than the rest of the series...I think it's time for me to go read some more.
