gokudou no hanayome
Sep. 12th, 2009 03:21 pmGokudou no hanayome by Katagiri Barbara and illustrated by Miroku Kotoko is stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid. But kinda fun. As per the title, this is about a boy named Naoya who becomes the bride of a yakuza boss. He's the son of the boss of another neighboring clan, and, well, he's not very bright. The other guy, Iori, is the son of the head of his clan, and when Naoya was young he'd looked up to Iori (who is quite a bit older than Naoya). In any case, the author comments in the afterward that she wanted to do a "bacouple" + yakuza story. Oh yes, they are a stupid couple. When Iori first snatches Naoya and declares Naoya to be his bride, Naoya is not pleased. He wanted to lead a gorgeous yet yakuza-free life. He doesn't want to live with Iori. He knows what Iori's house is like, he'd been there. It's kind of like his old house. So Iori asks what his ideal home is. Naoya tells him that he wants to live in a Western style house with a chandelier from the ceiling and hard floors and white walls, shrubbery and a hammock and a pool and jacuzzi and a fluffy big dog in the garden. And maids. Iori laughs at Naoya's ideal, as it's the same as when he was much younger AND about ten years out of fashion. And yet the house Iori takes Naoya to is not Iori's parents old Japanese style house, but basically one that looks like Naoya's ideal. He also makes Naoya cook breakfast, and eats the crap Naoya (who can't cook at all) ends up making without complaint. And makes Naoya give him a goodbye kiss in the morning and greet him at the door with a hello kiss at night. Talk about fulfilling the just-married life fantasy?
In any case, Naoya has no idea that Iori adores him and that he actually loves Iori back (naturally). Iori is all cool and adult yakuza, so isn't clear to Naoya on his feelings for most of the book. Which results in misunderstandings and tears and punching (by Naoya of Iori XDXD) and running off in the rain. But in the end everything is resolved and they become a happily married couple. A ridiculously dopey one, to boot. There's an extra story about how Naoya makes crappy scrambled eggs every morning that always involves an explosion. Iori sneaks a look in the kitchen and enjoys seeing Naoya so excited and happy. He could teach Naoya how to make normal scrambled eggs, but then he'd miss out on seeing Naoya so excited! It's worth eating crap every day, right?
( the art's pretty decent, too )
