jidaigeki yes?
Mar. 31st, 2011 09:41 pmIn the mood for cheeese? I caught part of one episode of Mitsumei Kangetsu Kasumigiri, a j-dorama from several years back about a master swordsman on some secret mission to save his clan. It's incredibly bad, but in a good way. It's cheesy, the acting and production is only mediocre, but the actor who plays the swordsman is good looking and somehow so right in the part. There are the oddest pauses that make the production seem almost amateurish, it's hilarious. And the attempts at creating drama (say a big sword fight or a woman being held hostage by knife point) kinda fail. The best part was when one guy leaves a meeting with the swordsman but is followed by a mysterious guy in the shadows wearing those conical woven hats traveling ronin types like to wear in jidaigeki. Swordsman notices and follows. The lady who'd seen the first guy off walks into the room swordsman was in to find him gone. Instead, a camellia in the alcove falls. Oh, is someone going to die? It's so obvious and the timing so clumsy it's almost endearing. The swordsman also endears with his bonhomie. He's so samurai but so good-natured and a bit bumbling when not fighting (actually, it feels like everyone in the series who isn't a bad guy seems oddly good-natured). At least, in the episode I saw. I rather hope the entire series is like that. XD;
