I know they used to run background checks to see if one was burakumin or something, but does that really take place still in these days?
And oh well, the (lack of) independent position of women in japanese society is so well-documented that i've gotten tired of ranting abt those. I can only hope that the acual society has progressed beyond that and literature is slow to catch up. Since you live (and work) there, what do you see?
