I was rereading a book that was pretty entertaining if very cliched. Uke hates co-worker seme but ends up having to work with him on a project. Seme turns out not to be so horrible and actually has a lot of really positive qualities lacking in uke. Uke causes seme inconvenience when he gets drunk one night and ends up allowing seme to fuck him to make up for the inconvenience. Uke realizes along the way that he's fallen for seme but he can't do anything about his feelings since seme may be a nice guy who loves a good fuck but isn't in love with him or anything. Right?

*snorts*

Of course seme loves uke. Has always loved uke. Turns out he'd lied about uke having caused him inconvenience that night uke had gotten drunk so that he could at least get uke's body if nothing else. Uke is not mad, he's surprised. And he thinks, wow, he loved me that much?

My brain shorted out when I read that line again. I guess I'd missed it the first time around, or hadn't really taken it in.

WHY AREN'T YOU MAD?! I don't care if you love the dude, he lied and tricked you into bed! And he thought you HATED him at the time! This is not a good thing. This is not what a nice guy does. This is not "proof" of the depth of his love. NO! NO! NO!

But then I remembered that this genre thinks rape=love, so this is nothing in comparison. *sighs* I still wish there'd be that moment of ANGER at the deception before his delight at finding his love returned overwhelmed it, but even that little bit tends to be superfluous in this genre.

I'm glad to find that my sensibilities haven't fully left me yet after all this time reading BL, but these moments of "WTF NO!" can be tiring.
