I am thoroughly enjoying the KKM novels. So much so I've started to randomly translate stuff. :P Anyhow, the random bits got long, so...
Hm. Book 2 starts off very interestingly:
Julia, I think I'm a very happy man.
When I lost you, I hated and blamed everything in this world. I hated and blamed myself. I felt ashamed, that it was a sin to survive, and despaired.
I cursed the long-lived Mazoku blood, that I'll never have anything that I'd protect with my life again.
But it's different now.
I want to shoulder all of the sins and wounds of your soul that had gone ahead. If there really is a place called heaven, I want to believe that your soul was able to go there.
And if you should be reborn somewhere, I pray that it will be a happy life. That you won't meet a guy like me and take the wrong path.
Julia.
I'm still alive.
I can't ever forget you, but I've found something precious to me again.
It really makes me sad for Adelbert. But what is it that he's found? He doesn't know Julia's soul is back, so does that mean he's found meaning in life in opposing and destroying the Mazoku? But he sounds so...tender...
In any case, I forgot to mention in the previous book, that when Yuuri first gets flushed down the toilet, he equates it to warping (in space), and relates a cute story of how when his dad took him to Disneyland they only rode Star Tours. Over and over again. So much so that the young Yuuri remembered all of the robot's lines:
Papa.
What is it Yuuri?
Why do we always ride only "Star Tours" when we come to Disneyland?
What, you don't like Star Tours, Yuuri?
I don't don't like it, I love it! But we've ridden it so many times I remembered the words of the "droid" who's the "pilot."
That's amazing, Yuuri! You remembered all of the lines of the droid pilot? Then Yuuri, let's ride it again to see if you've got it all right. It'll definitely come in handy when you grow up.
Erg, can't quite convey how cute this exchange is. All of Yuuri's words are in hiragana, even the "droid" and "pilot" in English is in hiragana. But...when how why would the lines from Star Tours ever come in handy?? I knew the dad was strange, but...
In any case, in the beginning of the second volume, Yuuri gets sucked back to Shinmakoku in the public bath. This time he remembers a conversation with his brother:
Niichan.
What is it, kid brother?
What happens to a person's body when they "warp?"
Huh!?
Someday humanity will build starships and travel to other planets, right? Like in Star Wars or Star Trek or Red Dwarf. So if we don't train our bodies for then, we might throw up all over the place and it'll be shameful, right?
Are you stupid!? Don't talk only about fantasy. If you have the time to think about things like that, memorize even one English vocabulary word. That's why your grades are so bad. Last week I ran into my former teacher Okamura, and he laughed at me, that he couldn't see us as blood related brothers. There's no way that a spatial movement apparatus would be invented in our lifetimes, so it's useless to worry about something like that! We don't need to do warp training!!
I love this family. I could totally hear the brother saying this in a sharp tone. Anyways, I love how Yuuri remembers that and thinks that he should have done warp training since he's actually experiencing such movement. ^__^
I had also forgotten from the previous book how Yuuri imagines the Godfather theme playing whenever Gwendal shows up. I don't know the Godfather theme off hand, but I can imagine what it's like and how it's perfect for Gwendal's stern countenance. And in contrast, Yuuri describes Wolfram as a former member of the Vienna Boys Chorus. Beautiful, pale, like an angel...but adds that his personality is horribly conceited and like a barking Pomeranian. The Pomeranian image totally fits! ^__^
When Yuuri shows up naked in the bath and gets assaulted by those weirdo guys, and is saved when they go after Gunter instead, I like how he says "Thank you Gunter. I'll never forget you" and Gunter is like "Your Majesty? Wait, Your Majesty! I am not dead yet!" *snickers"
