random manga talk

The other day I was flipping through the Japanese language manga Borders carried. One was Zettai Kareshi by Watase Yuu. I have been too traumatized by past Watase Yuu works to actually read anything by her now (more on that below), but there was one scene that caught my eye and made me laugh. A flashback of the main character Riiko taking a bath with her dad back when she was young and gullible innocent:
Riiko: "Hey Papa"
Dad: "What is it, Riiko?"
Riiko: "Why don't I have this thing you have, Papa?"
*Riiko grabs*
Dad: "Well...you sure ask questions that are hard to answer sometimes. It really surprises me! (Hey, don't pull)"
Dad: "Don't worry, when you grow up you'll grow one!"
*Riiko throws her arms up in the air, happy*
Riiko: "Really? YAY!"
*Mom suddenly slides open the bathroom door*
Mom: "Don't go telling idiotic lies to children!"
XDXD
In any case, it's really odd seeing anything new by her. I more or less enjoyed Fushigi Yuugi...at least, the first arc. The anime made me groan a lot, and I had a hard time taking Midorikawa Hikaru seriously after that (kind of like Koyasu and Weizz *shudders*). That second arc of Fushigi Yuugi I thought was lame and unnecessary and the multi-page sex scene was SOOO not necessary. >_< After that I didn't want to really read her stuff....and that feeling was only reinforced when a friend ranted at me in detail about how Ayashi no Ceres sucked beyond all belief.
I think my biggest problem with her works are that her main characters are so not compelling. I'm always struck by how the gorgeous guys that populate her stories might as well be gay and after each other since the females are way unworthy of them. And then I end up doubting their intelligence and sense because they all are after the unworthy girl....
The dude with the glasses is damn cute, though. He needs to find a good man to take care of him. *nods*
