Lucky Birthday by Kiatenmokugyo

One of those translations I did when I was without a computer at all last week. I have much rabu for this. Standard disclaimers and apologies regarding quality of scans and translations apply.





There is another short manga before the one below where Ryoma gives Tezuka a birthday present (IOUs for tennis games with Ryoma ^_^;), and where Ryoma also gives flowers to Tezuka's mom to thank her for her hard work in giving birth to Tezuka (apparently the idea to thank moms on someone's birthday was cooked up by his dad). So for Ryoma's birthday...




Tezuka: I apologize for calling suddenly...My name is Tezuka. I was the Captain of the Seigaku Tennis Club until this fall...I have come in honor of Echizen-kun's birthday
Tezuka: The month before last, my mother had also received a present for my birthday. We were both extremely grateful and wanted to give something in return. Though this is not much, please accept it.
Mom: Oh my...Oh my!
Mom: Than you very much...You're so proper!
Mom: How wonderful! I'll display this on the table tonight.




Mom: It's like he's come to propose to Ryoma
Ryoma: ...It's like he's a teacher visiting his student's parents at home.
Nanjiroh: ...
Nanjiroh: Wha...
Nanjiroh: Who the hell are you, giving my wife flowers!! What are your intentions?
Nanjiroh: Talking so smoothly and pretentiously!
Ryoma; Dad, shut up
sfx: do (thud)
Mom: Oh my
Nanjiroh: !!!
Nanjiroh: Ryoma, you little! Hey!
Ryoma; Bucho...Let's go out back. We have a court out there.
Tezuka: Echizen...Is it okay?...That is...
Ryoma: It's fine (He'll just let loose if you bother dealing with him)
Nanjiroh: Ryoooomaaaa
Mom: Tezuka-kun, please stay for dinner!




Tezuka: ...
Tezuka: Echizen
Tezuka: I didn't come to play tennis...
Ryoma: I'll let you serve, Bucho...Go ahead, anytime
Tezuka: Hey
Ryoma: Why not?...It's my birthday today
Ryoma: You said a present is something that makes a person happy
Tezuka: I've already prepared a present
Ryoma: Then for a Christmas present
Tezuka: ...




Tezuka: ...If you're going to say that, then I'm getting one as well?
Tezuka: A Christmas present
Ryoma: ...
Ryoma: Um
Ryoma: Then a one-set match from me
Tezuka; No
Ryoma: ...
sfx: za (scuff)
sfx: suta suta (walking quickly)
sfx: gui (grab)




CHU
Tezuka: ...
sfx: fufun. (chuckle)
Ryoma; You're happy, right?...There you go, your Christmas present



Tezuka: ...
Tezuka: ...Then...Why can't I give you the same thing?
Ryoma: No thanks
Ryoma: I'd rather have tennis than a kiss
Tezuka: ...




Though he did it anyhow.

What can I say? This makes me laugh. I love how tennis ranks way higher than anything else in Ryoma's mind.
