is it just me?

Or is LJ still slow since they did that big move? I've been kind of avoiding it since after a while I lose patience. :P
I saw a preview for the Rent movie on TV, and it reminded me that I hadn't posted my impression of it. I got to go to a preview last week, which turned out to be full of rabid fans (the best kind of crowd).
I was absolutely obsessed with the musical years back, listening to it over and over and over and over and over...and I did see it when the national tour came here. I was excited, but in a muted way, when I heard they were making a movie. I was looking forward to seeing most of the original cast in it, though I was disappointed on hearing that Mimi was being replaced. I like her raspy voice, though it took me a while to get used to it.
In any case, I am too much of a fan to hate it, but at the same time I am too much of a fan to truly love it. I think it lost something when it was filmed. It's that intangible...spark that a live performance has. Plus they had to cut things out for the movie, and I missed some of the things they cut. I think they "cleaned it up" for the movie somewhat.
I wish they had not shot certain scenes the way they did. They seemed to not have been able to resist taking advantage of the camera in a cliched way in the way they set up scenes and did close-ups.
Overall, I'm glad I went to see it. I probably will buy it when it comes out on DVD.
