must run...

I have to go out, but I was a fool and watched one too many episodes of Soukyuu no Fafner and now I'm rushing. >_< In any case, I was looking for something to watch this morning (instead of doing the million things I should be doing). Initially I was going to watch Crest of the Stars, but I'm missing the first 4 episodes or so because the CD I burned them onto is missing. So...I figured I'd give Fafner another chance. I mean...pretty pictures at least, right?
Saw the first five episodes. Huh. I must say, the first two did nothing for me. Waay too overdramatic, and no development of characters at all (okay there was some, but so little it doesn't count). I was laughing throughout the entire first episode. Kept getting distracted by deja vu of Eva, Rah Xephon, Eva, Eva, Eva. The start certainly didn't have the impact either of those two shows had for me. In any case, I started warming up once they had more human reactions. First the parents finding out their kids had been selected, then the kids interacting with each other. I think the show worked best when it doesn't try so hard to be grand, epic, and tragic. The voice overs by...Soushi?..with those really lame lines just kill me. XD Shouko was...fascinating. She was kind of scary, how she was all psycho in protecting her promise (her fixation on Kazuma, who seems to pay only the slightest attention to her, and only when she's right in front of him, is...kind of sad). Talk about the power of love overcoming physical limitations (and she had to support herself with the wall while walking, but she doesn't black out from the strains of piloting the Fafner for the first time?) and common sense (like did she really have to blow herself up? Really? I know it'll up the angst and tragedy, and motivate others...to probably do something stupid).
Damn, most of the characters are extremely attractive. The adults, too. O_o Love the eye candy. I know the main pairing in this is Soushi/Kazuma (right?), but right now they are very dead as characters to me. I hope they start emoting a bit more (ANGST, damn you!).
Despite all the negative things I've been saying, I'll keep watching. Partly for the slash potential, partly to find out what the HELL is going on, and partly because everyone's so damn pretty. ^__^
Oh yes, can anyone share the Fafner opening song? It's grown on me. The ending song still irritates me, though.
And...I'm late. *sighs*
