I've been having a great time reveling in TezuRyo and all the glorious angst and unspoken currents and pressures that English fandom seems to delight in wallowing in. It started off with [livejournal.com profile] prillalar's short untitled Ryoma birthday fic and progressed to her less sweet and short fics and then onto others.

The perfect background music to all of this wallowing is, oddly enough, the Barenaked Ladies/Sarah McLachlan version of God Rest Ye Gentlmen (YSI link). Why does it depress me, even though it's upbeat?

Speaking of TezuRyo, I was reminded of how wrong it is to say "TezuRyo" since 塚リョ is actually read "ZukaRyo." When I was talking to a woman while we were leaving the TezuRyo event in September, I had to consciously kick myself to say "ZukaRyo" instead of "TezuRyo." Thank goodness I caught myself. Speaking of that conversation, I love how she immediately referred to Fuji as the "Maou" (Demon King) when he was brought up.

I really hate how I mix up "it's" and "its" and "their" and "they're" all the time, and have to fix them time and time again. And probably don't catch and fix lots of them and they slip through and aggravate the people to whom that type of thing is a pet peeve.

They're just slips (it's/its, etc.) ... A real petpeeve for me is netspeak (all those OMGBBQ***!!! etc. or f34r me stuff... now THAT's annoying ^_^).

But I do it all the time, which is what irks me. Don't even start talking about net-speak. I refuse to think of it as English. Simply gives me a headache and I don't bother trying to decipher what they are trying to say.
