snorts

I foolishly ventured into the LJ of a rabid fan of an important but not main character in a certain series. Oh, what a mistake. I love fangirl histrionics even while wincing when it gets bad. I've done my share of rants about something or another, but the sheer DRAMA associated with the "What is the (idiot) author/artist doing to this obviously wonderful, special and perfect character??!!! Why does the creator of the character not understand him? OH WHY?? I must WITHDRAWL from the fandom if this TRAVESTY continues!" is just...yeah. Suuuure, you know better. But then, at least they are doing the worst of it in their own LJ and not subjecting any comms to their tantrum (I hope).

I also, against my better judgement (okay, it was a lapse into insanity), read an AU Loveless fic. Another mistake. First off, she was attempting to write in a particular elaborate style and was failing. Badly. Well, it was in the details...but everything's in the details. :P But beyond that, the story! The characterizations! Oh god. I think I'll stick to my policy of avoiding all Loveless fanfics...unless someone I can trust regarding their fanfic judgements recs one. And no pedophilia unless it's somehow beyond amazingly done. Unlikely, though.

I don't know what fandom you are talking about, but I read the same thing in at least three fandoms I'm a part of it... today. :D

I was in a Loveless mood waiting for the new chapter to come out and wondering if I should read the fanfic. I think you answered my question. I was kind of scared to even look at it.

Ack, I hope they weren't on comms. >_< I don't think out and out rants belong on general fandom comms, especially when they start on the irrational I know better than the author stuff. In this case, I was a fool and was randomly reading personal LJs.

Heh, you should try it! It was...amusing. Really. In a bad way, but amusing nonetheless.

^_^

I crack up each time someone start that on JK Rowlings. I always want to holler to them "Write and publish and sell to millions of readers" the same if you're SOOOO much better than the author... or get their world/characters better than the creator.

This is a time where I really get the whole "Bitch, please" expression :P

I'm so glad I'm not into HP fandom. I've heard some not very nice comments about JK Rowlings, and I can imagine there must be many people who bitch and whine. And since people are really attached to minor characters, I can imagine the rants about how she's ruining them or something. Whatever.

NOT on any comm as I'm not into HP fandom either (I'm still stopped at vol. 4)... and yes the amount of jealousy and nastiness is amazing (she might not be the greatest writer ever... who cares. She publishes, is read and is making tons of money... a lot of the bad stuff being said about her is pure and simple jealousy from people who think they are better writers than her... imo, at least).

Not on comms? Wow, I'm glad I'm spared that. I think it's silly for the people who rag on her so much to keep reading her books.
