Thanks to
sesame_seed I've discovered and have begun using del.icio.us, a way to store, share, and find links. It takes care of the major reason why I don't use bookmarks or LJ memories much--the ability to add a note describing the link very very easily. Just having a list of fic titles is not helpful to me. Being the madmadmad prolific reader that I am, I go through fics at a fast pace. I can't recall every fic by title and author. Having installed the Firefox extension, all I have to do is either right-click or click on a button labeled "tag" at the top of the window, and a dialog box appears. It has fields for URL (already filled out), description (default is the page title), notes, and tags. Yes, tags. A convenient way to classify links. At the very bottom are lists of recommended tags, and if the site has been linked by other people, popular tags. Speaking of linked by other people, a nifty feature shows how many other people have linked to that particular page. You can click through and actually view all the people who have linked to that page, as well as their notes. See my account for a sample. Right now I have a bunch of SGA fic I had open on tabs on my browser, as well as the beginning of my browser bookmarks transferred. It'll probably take a while to transfer because I'll have to reread every fic to come up with an adequate note. :P
I have yet to explore it all, but being able to browse by tags, or by user (and since it provides a list of users linking the same page, it's easy to find people who may share the same taste), but it looks very promising.
Now I'm not sure if I will do any more ficdumping in my LJ...I like doing it, and I'm used to it. But it litters my LJ, overwhelming it at times (like the last several months). I haven't decided whether to keep doing what I do now, or maybe do a weekly ficdump, or create a separate ficdumping LJ. *sighs*
On a sidenote, I find it very interesting that for Jfandom I bookmark sites, while for Wfandom I bookmark fics. And I can remember the sites pretty well by name, recalling types of fics and/or specific fics by that. But then, I have visual cues (the site layout) which I tie into the name to help me out. ^^;
