As I have been traumatized tonight by some terrible, terrible "music" from Weiss (Midorikawa should not sing...gah...and Okiayu has gotten
so much better...) I must fight against the painful sounds with beautiful music!!
When I was flipping through my CD collection for Gundam Wing, I got to see some CDs I hadn't seen or heard in quite a while. One that I didn't stop at, but is now plaguing my mind is
Weathering Continent (Kaze no Tairiku). This was an OVA based on a series of very good fantasy novels, and the music is
stunning. It made me think about my all time favorite anime BGM soundtracks. The short list that came to mind immediately:
- Escaflowne--I don't know how many times I've listened to the first soundtrack. My first taste of the genius that is Kanno Yoko, it is infinitely listenable and wonderfully beautiful.
- Weathering Continent--Just plain gorgeous. Evokes the atmosphere of the anime perfectly. Someday I will read the novels, I swear I will.
- Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away)--I like almost all of the soundtracks of the Miyazaki films, but they aren't all totally listenable. I can't put the CDs in and have them repeat over and over and over...except for this one. I love this soundtrack.
I had to add two non-anime soundtracks because I adore them to pieces:
- Last Unicorn--This movie disturbed me as a child, because it is dark, it is gloomy, it has freaky characters (even the "good guys" have freaky character designs!), but it was and is memorable. What an amazing movie with an amazing soundtrack. I am so glad I bothered to find and buy the German copy of this soundtrack...I can't believe they didn't release the soundtrack in the U.S.
- Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves--This is one of those movies I know is not very good but I watched a lot. I haven't seen it in ages, but I do listen to the sountrack pretty often. I first borrowed it from a friend to get "(Everything I do) I do it for you," but very quickly it were the instrumental tracks that made me buy my own copy and listen to it again and again over the years. Besides, Alan Rickman kicks ass.
And an honorable mention because it's an image album:
- Please Save My Earth Image Album--So absolutely amazing and very beautiful...I wonder if the actual soundtrack is this good? :D
And here are a couple of the tracks from the two Weathering Continent soundtracks. They are beautiful, I promise:
- Kaze no Tairiku - the title vocal track
- Overture - instrumental overture
- Lica do Vento - another vocal track using the overture theme (I don't know how to get the c and a with the correct accents >_<)
And today was fun with lists. ^_^
