an embarrassment of riches
Feb. 14th, 2005 08:53 pmI safely grabbed the missing PoT episodes 143 - 146 from my friend and went through them tonight...I have two things to say...as a fellow American, I want to disown that American team. I can take psycho Americans (a la Gravitation), I can take bastard Americans (in so many anime it isn't worth mentioning), I can take perverted Americans (even that annoying breast-grabbing kansai-ben-speaking chick from Ai Yori Aoshi)...but...these guys...*shudder*...
Second thing I have to say is that Kevin is a hilarious character. He is endlessly amusing. If I wasn't previously warned about him I'd have probably hated his guts (because he's rather annoying), but because I knew he was coming I was prepared...and I can accept him as harmless stalker dude who tries so hard to be threatening (evil villan smirk-->closeup!!). Yes, confess your undying passion for Ryoma on national TV!! I think he's trying to be menacing (which so doesn't work because he's so damn short) so that he can catch the ever indifferent Ryoma's attention ("Look at me! I'm the one you want!"). It doesn't help that the badass subtitles on these Chinese DVD rips have lines like: "You wanna play with him in a private way" (Atobe talking to Ryoma about his wanna-be honey)...so...so...bad...
I have to admit, I feel a bit sorry for the poor kid. He has a crappy father. Even if that dude wasn't a drunken sop, Kevin would probably be traumatized. But then, because he has that guy's genes he has to go around marking his territory by beating the shit out of poor innocent tennis players...he is so insecure he has to use bastard ways to announce that Echizen Ryoma is his...he is obviously the only one worthy...*snicker*...
In any case, when I first got home I was torn between finally watching the episodes I agonized over this weekend or reading novels...because my yesasia order came in!!! I flipped through my copies of Empty Heart and Ikoku Irokoi Romantan and rejoiced at the Japaneseness of it all, and looked longing at the covers of the five novels that I also got that would take far too much time to read...TOO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM!! Obviously I went the brainless route and watched PoT. :D
One really annoying thing that happened today was that I found out that I totally should have ordered the Sentou Yousei Yukikaze Kaiseki Manual when I made my latest amazon japan order last night...I thought from the title it was some dry discussion on the mech or something, but I learned today from one of the Japanese fanart sites that it contains OVA staff interviews (whatever) and two short stories!!! One is called "My machine" and I think it covers Rei's past and/or his first encounter with Jack's squandron or something (not too sure, it is only mentioned in passing)...GAR!!! Of course, when I tried to add on to the order, it was already being processed so no go. >_< The only good thing is that the order has been shipped out today, so it will be getting to me sometime next week (sans manual, but at least I will have the manga and novels to comfort me...).
