I love having moments of epiphany about really trivial and obvious things. I was listening to a drama CD (my new way of making my commute seem shorter) this morning when it hit me. I always knew "hansuto" meant hunger strike. Hearing it spoken in the drama CD several times made me realize:

English: HUNGER STRIKE
Japanese pronounciation: HANGAA SUTORAIKU
Take the first two syllables from each word: HANSUTO

...from crying too much. Watched King Kong. I just wanted to say how HUMANS SUCK and watching a movie you know the ending of is like watching a train wreck in slow motion and PETER JACKSON IS A GENIUS (except that the movie was too long and he really should have cut from the island scenes...especially the utterly DISGUSTING creatures and some of the utterly awful and DISGUSTING deaths that ensued). He managed to make me care about King Kong, and Naomi Watts made me believe she cared. A lot. The moments of joy and perfect beauty were that much more beautiful because of their transience and so poignant because it was all going to end far too quickly.

One of the most difficult scenes to watch was the show featuring King Kong...the distortion of facts, especially with the dancing natives (the difference between the sanitized version and the really freaky reality was a frightening thing to behold). Disgusting, the shallowness and sleaze of people.

Of course, the most difficult scene was the whole Empire State Building climax. GUH. No wonder the original was such a classic (I didn't see that or the first remake). ;_;
