scrunchy is an AU SGA fanfic parody of the Kevin Smith movie "Chasing Amy." The fic itself totally didn't work for me. I don't know if it helps to have seen the movie, but the basic problem for me was the characters didn't come alive for me. I love the SGA crew in all manner of settings, whether in more-or-less canon, some version of aliens-made-them-do-it, a big fat tragic angst-fest, or plain old AU because they are pretty vibrant characters. I bring this fic up only because there's an FST for this fic by
slodwick that deserves to be mentioned. First, the cover. *_* Lovely, lovely, lovely and soooo cool. Second, the music. It works. Okay, I've only listened to half so far and it's a fascinating collection of music (some of which I would normally not touch with a ten-foot pole) but...it works. Seriously. I could imagine this as a soundtrack to the fic, and it totally sets the mood. AND THE COVER!!!
One thing I've begun to dislike is when writers link to their fic on LJ to the comment page. I can decide to comment or not and press the comment link if I bloody well want to all on my own, thank you very much. -_-
In my wanderings through SGA fandom, I came across a post theorizing on what makes a show/book/comic/whatever watchable vs. fannish. I've always wondered why some things I adore to pieces but yawn at any fannish activities (FMA, Fruitsbasket being prominent examples) while others I go on crazy missions to track down everything decent. Gave me some food for thought but not much in the way of solid answers.
