Ah..back home, where I can lie around sick in peace instead of forcing myself to go out and do stuff. ^^; The sad thing is that I was worried about being able to bring back really heavy luggage in my condition so I ended up mailing back a lot of stuff, most noticeably all of my manga. I did manage to either read or skim everything except Whistle! (I found the set used for a good price, but didn't want to start the series when I couldn't read it at leisure)
Brother by Ougi Yuzuha: Not sure how I heard about it, but someone somewhere (was it on a comm or was it someone on my flist?) was raving about this manga about stepbrothers who are both impotent for years until they find that they aren't with each other, so I bought the two volumes. *_* Oh yeah, I like this one. The younger brother seme is kind of typical but still really cute (the way he just is so into his older brother, and how totally not into tennis--which he was amazingly good at), the older brother is just...I especially love how he remains totally guy and older brother even though he's the uke (I rather dislike the uke=weak/feminine theme) and that he normally has a dorky styled hair but when he has it down he looks HOT.
Voice or Noise by Enjin Ranmaru: This was being posted on a comm, and I've liked this artist for a long time (she's illustrated some novels I really like) so I decided to just buy it. I didn't realize there was more than one volume and that the story didn't end at volume 2...Ugh. The story is a bit frustrating for both the kid and the reader. I mean...I do like that the story kind of meanders and doesn't take a direct route to love and/or sex, but then there's retarded. *sighs* I hope volume 3 doesn't disappoint.
Saa Koi ni Ochitamae by Yamato Nase: OMG OMG OMG the brothers, all of them, are just insane. I do like both the love story and the family drama, even though I wanted to slap the seme at times at the end. The reaction when the brothers realized the two were actually in love with each other was priceless. So...enthusiastic. I love how the second brother is like "We'll have steak tonight!" and the third brother adds something to effect that it'd actually be pork or something. XD
Silver Diamond 7 & 8 by Sugiura Shiho: I can't help but love this manga more and more with each volume. The art is just lovely, the story is engaging, and the characters. The characters. The four main are so perfect, a great combination of serious and silly. I love the addition of that rock eating dog thing (was it a youkai? I don't remember ^^;), and the great gap between her outward appearance and her actual attitude/words. I want more!
Spiral 15: Hm, I only was able to skim this but...I am not sure what to make of the confrontation between Ayumu and his brother. It seemed...weak, to me. And the thing with the "betrayal?" Wow, didn't see that coming. I'm not sure I really liked it. However, I love how...kind of bleak the ending is. I mean, Ayumu is so going to die. It's only a matter of how much longer they can keep him alive. I've got to read this more thoroughly when it comes in the mail.
Fruitsbasket 20: Ah...I'd forgotten how angsty this manga could be. I...is it bad of me to admit to snickering at the recounting of Akito's very unfortunate past? I mean, we've gone through almost everyone's very unfortunate past and it's kind of gotten to be routine. I do feel sorry for her, but she doesn't stand out to me because I've become too numb to new angst. I do look forward to see if she and Shigure get anywhere, though.
Godchild 8: I only skimmed this, but...the twists and turns of this manga was just too much for me to follow seriously. I know, this series is all about angst and darkness and betrayal and all that, but still. I mean...really. The thing about Cain's mother? Though I was happy to see that Cain and Riff were together in death. I mean, how else was Cain going to find any true measure of happiness?
I despair at the amount of SGA fic that has been posted during my trip. I have no idea how I'm going to catch up. *sighs*

Date: 2006-07-06 11:51 am (UTC)Some of the books you mentioned I think I saw in scans and finally... oh yeah, there were lots of SGA fics written and as I mostly only read fics you rec or another place rec, I was awaiting your return impatiently *LOL*.

Date: 2006-07-06 12:17 pm (UTC)Godchild went really crackpot at the end; I'd stopped trying to make sense of it. It was a very fitting resolution for Cain and Riff at least.
During your absence I, uh, found a new fandom. XD;

Date: 2006-07-08 01:22 pm (UTC)I think she grew up like that bcos the Sohma House is twisted like that - they are disgusted with the Jyuunishi but still hold them in high 'honor' in the House. Whether the Jyuunishi started as a blessing or a curse doesn't even matter anymore. ^^
And I really like Akito's parents, for some reason. They like, with their own sort of charisma, charm me? ^^;;; Heh.
