Sometimes I'm in the mood for something light, sweet, pointless and fun...and I happened to download Sake to Shatsu to Kisu (Alcohol Shirt and Kiss) by Kuwabara Yuko. It was the perfect answer to my need, and I can't help but squee. I couldn't find any scanlations from a casual search, but it's coming out in March 2007 from Digital Manga.

The manga is about two detectives. Naruse had just been dumped by his girlfriend and cries over some drinks with a co-worker, Kida. He wakes up the next morning in Kida's bed. He had totally crashed and Kida ended up dragging him to his place for the night. He wakes up at Kida's again, he swears it won't happen again...and of course he does again. But...this time he's naked? From then on he and Kida end up getting closer and closer. It's not very original, but the art is pretty. I like the mix of humor and drama. Their co-workers are fun. And it's...sweet.




Some of my favorite parts, which are mostly the romantic bits.

The third time he wakes up at Kida's place:



I drank again last night after all and then...
And then?
Naruse: ????
Naruse: ...Um, why am I naked?

Gee, I wonder why?



Kida (smoking, of course): Last night was...how can I say it...exciting...
Naruse: E...Exciting!?
Kida: Naru
Huh?

I love Kida's nickname for Naruse. So cute!



Kida: You don't remember?

I love this page, with the kiss and the "You don't remember?" I even like Naruse's unresponsiveness.



Kida: You were quite aggressive and sexy, you know?
Kida: It was the first time I did it with a guy, but it was really...
Did?
Did!?
I don't remember!!!

Naruse's face just cracks me up. Especially since it turns out they hadn't actually had sex! It was all part of Kida's plan to mess Naruse up and make him conscious of him. XDXD

Some time later:



Kida: ....Hey...What does it feel like to love someone?
Kida: I don't understand
Kida: But I want you, Naru



Naruse: ...Ki...Kida-san...
Kida: I want you to be with me...I want you to teach me
Kida: What loving someone is like

In the next page Naruse is like, OMG it's like a proposal!!! Exactly...I love romantic statements like that...though at this point it's not really romantic. ^^;

And much much much later, when they are about to actually finally have sex:



Kida: Can I really make you mine tonight?...Hold you and shut you up in my arms...
Kida: Will you become mine?
Naruse: I...
Naruse: Please realize just a little
Naruse: That I was yours from a long time ago, Kida-san

*squees* I can't help it. I love declarations like that. Especially with blushing. XD

I just like the layout of this page. I like both of their expressions and the simplicity of it all.

I do like the part where Naruse is just fascinated at how he can see the guts of a body at a gruesome crime scene, and Kida and another co-worker are like...um...you're quite calm about it. Naruse points out that everyone is kind of odd in their department, pointing out that the other time one of their other co-workers was waving around a dismembered arm like a daikon. The accompanying picture would have been cute except that...dismembered arm. ^^;;
