I was searching for a particular issue of Pafu when I discovered that I actually have been subscribing to the magazine for far longer than I thought. Because I was irritated that I couldn't find the issue I wanted, I decided (in what I can only call a fit of utter madness) to type up best ranking survey data for all the years I have. Turns out that's TEN years worth. I input best manga series, anime, characters (some years split male/female, some years combined), combination/partners, and (if available) voice actor. I'm not sure what the demographic of the Pafu readership is or how it's changed over the years, but it was still pretty interesting stuff. Besides the obvious correlation between best characters coming from best series and best series/characters coming from best anime, seeing how some series/characters endured on the rankings was fascinating. Seeing beloved series mentioned made me want to dig them up and read them again (Hoshin Engi! Oh how I love that manga...too bad the anime sucked so badly). There are probably numerous mistakes because I foolishly did this late last night and after several hours I was dragging. Also, having to look up readings for names/series I didn't know was very troublesome. :P

I played with the formatting a bit and realized the easiest for me to create and read was to just use Excel's save as webpage function. Hope it works out for other people:

That's actually really neat to look at, especially the years back rankings.

It seems Sanzo is the most lasting character on that, even if he wasn't there this year.

Thanks. :D

For some reason I was surprised at how popular Saiyuki was....I suppose I shouldn't have been. You're welcome!

Wow, thanks for typing that up. Quite interesting. I had no idea KKM was so popular.

You're welcome. It'll be interesting to see how popular KKM remains now that the anime is over.

Is KKM really that good, BTW? I had watched a couple of eps, and except for the BLness, it didn't strike me as that out of the ordinary.

I don't know if I'd call it good, but...I enjoyed it in spite of my expectations, actually. It took sveral episodes but the characters grew on me.

*laughs* If you mean "angsty and painful and heart-wrenching" when you say "best?" Oh yeah.
