I finally got a hold of the first six volumes of Ookiku Furikabutte by Higuchi Asa, the baseball manga that will be animated this spring. It's about a pitcher who had an absolutely awful intermediate school team experience that robbed him of any semblance of confidence, but also about how his high school team comes together. So far I don't feel that crazy passion for this manga that I've gotten reading other sports manga (the pace is really slow and there's a lot of explanation...even more than the usual baseball manga XD), but I love the...positiveness of the manga (even as it kind of flummoxes me). Yes, the various characters may (or may not) have some issues, but they are all...disgustingly positive, forward looking, and above all obedient and eager. Not much of the punks, the attitude, or even the evil nasty bad coaches that seem to litter sports manga. Just...boys wanting to play baseball and parents and coaches that support and lead them. Lots and lots of analysis and strategizing during the games, too. It's almost too much for me, all the details of the calculations they have to go through, but at the same time it's nice seeing people have to actually do calculations and adjustments and strategizing instead of simply relying on raw power or genius or "the power of teamwork." And coaches that give concrete instructions rather than vague philosophical commentary or something are also rather nice.

I'm a bit irritated that volume six ended in the middle of a game and I won't be able to get volume seven for a month. I tried looking around for scans of raws, but there doesn't seem to be comms or forums dedicated to this series? There doesn't seem to be much in the way of scanlations either, which is sad since this is definitely very enjoyable.

I kind of remember seeing some doujinshi out there for this series which I never bothered checking out since I didn't know anything about it. I...am not really feeling the slash. I mean, I can see potential in some of the relationships (or more like the potential a fangirl might see), but I'd rather read regular team/buddy interaction...Or at the most WAFFy type stuff that's just borderline slash. I should do some research and see what pairings are popular...I wonder whether I'll be totally surprised at what I discover. XD

Now I want to go and find more baseball manga. I'm definitely picking up the Adachi Mitsuru one running currently, but hopefully there are others...

I so was going to do another bl novel summary this weekend, but all the new stuff to read just sucked all my attention. :P

I love baseball manga. Heck, sports manga in general. XD It boggles the mind considering that I hate sports... but then, it's more about the people playing the sports than the actual game itself, I suppose.

aklsjdflkajsdf, Adachi Mitsuru <3 Cross Game! I've read all of the scanlated chapters out so far and it's good. ^^ There are some things I feel are inevitable even if I don't want them to happen (lkajsdlfkjalsf), but... it's interesting so far.

It's odd how a person doesn't have to have any positive feelings toward a sport to love a manga based on the sport. I so hate most sports...actually, I can't bother to muster enough emotion to hate them. I suppose I'm supremely indifferent to them.

Oh yeah, Cross Game, that's what it's called. I think Adachi Mitsuru + baseball = must get. XD

I hate playing them. Not the actual sport (whatever it may be), which I really could probably care less about, but people forcing/prodding me to participate. ^^; But sports manga... I dunno, you can't help but get sucked in with everything. I maintain it's the character interactions--where the team and their love for the game is more important than the actual game itself.

Adachi Mitsuru is friggen awesome. XD

It's the passion and focus on the goal, very appealing to read/watch.

I'm not sure if you've seen Major or not. The anime is currently running in it's third season and is ♥ XD
Most of the manga is not yet scanlated but I think bro once said that there are raws of it in the #lurk channel at irchighway [and it's already up to v57 ^_^]
And once you read it/ or watch the anime XDXD you'll love it... There are some tearjerky moments initially at first but once you got through that, you'll be hooked

I haven't seen or read Major at all. I'll have to try to find the anime and check it out since I don't really want to try IRC again after my rather bad experience with it. :P
