I just realized that the dude I linked to in my last post reminds me of Robin Hobbs and her pathetic rants. Talk about losers. It's a reminder that it's better to fangirl enthusiastically about things you love than to rag on things you hate, because it's too easy to slip into whiny assholeness. :P

And on fangirling, I can't help but be vaguely yet deeply disturbed by the phrase "exploding ovaries." I understand the sentiment that is being expressed, but still. Exploding innards is just kind of gross.

An American actually answered a quiz question with the correct answer "Hiroshima" without stressing any syllables like most Americans tend to do with Japanese words. But even as I was marveling at the novelty of it, the quizzer confirmed her answer and repeated "Hiroshima" with a stress on the "ro." That was a downer--A decently correct pronunciation almost immediately followed by the standard incorrect one. I really hope he did that due to the habit that some quizzers have to repeat the answer and not because he was trying to "correct" her.

I also idly started looking through some saved fanfics on my hard drive. God, that was depressing. I don't understand what made me save some of them. It's odd how in a moment of fangirling bliss a lot of not so good stuff seems pretty good. Sometimes it's just one scene or even one line that will catch me and make me think the entire fic is much better than it is. Then I go back to it much later and cringe.

On the other hand, I realized that I hadn't read all the doujinshi I had bought on my last trip to Japan. The first couple I read were meh, but that's the chance you take when you buy sealed stuff based on covers. But then I came across one written by one of my favorite circles that turned out to be pure fannish joy. Well written, funny, indulgent in all the right ways...Ahhhh...bliss. And as I've said before, the language level in doujinshi can be higher than the published stuff. It's a nice change from simplistic language or purple prose.

I recently noticed that one of my unfinished bl novel summaries was last edited an entire year ago. I am so bad about finishing those things, especially the ones of books I particularly adore. I think I have a whole slew of abandoned summaries because I just get worn out trying to balance putting in details with making things flow. But then, I am not particularly good at summarizing and end up cramming too much in anyways. :P

I love cats with short tails. Especially the ones with rounded ends. ^___^
