You know how sometimes a review makes you want to read something you'd probably never bother with? Lianne's review of the shoujo manga Vampire Knight made me laugh, but more importantly, curious. I've recently been melodrama'd out, but...I'm tempted. I mean, check out her "educated impression":

You’ll probably die for more of this series if you a.) have the sentimentality of a teenage girl, b.) are addicted to melodrama, c.) have even a vague interest in vampires, d.) find sexual tension an art, e.) want to see boys angst while wielding phallic guns at cute girls and other boys, f.) find any of the above hilarious. But if you want something serious and intelligent to read/watch, stay away far, far away from the ridiculousness that is Vampire Knight.

XDXD

Classic example about how bad review really really REALLY makes me want to read a series!

Most of those points I find highly appealing - sad but true ^^;;.

Exactly! Bad reviews can sparkle! I love most of those points as well.

Well, that may not be an "educated" impression, but from what I've seen of Vampire Knight, it seems pretty accurate. XD

Then again, I don't really care for vampire stories.

Vampire Knight is great. And it is about the melodramatic love triangle between Feisty Heroine, Angsty Bishonen, and Secretly Dangerous, with extremely likable side characters and an average of four plot twists per volume.

What I especially like is that heroine knows that Kaname is dangerous, but she also knows that there's no way she can escape her childhood crush. I also like that Zero's tragic past is so, so, so ridiculously tragic; and that Kaname remains somewhat mysterious despite the constant DANGER!!! vibes.

I'm impressed with the average four plot twists per volume stat. The author makes it work volume after volume?

Maybe I need to mosey on over to a bookstore and check it out...

wahaha this is so true I cant help but giggle, especially for /e and d/. I think a/ sum up all the point already, but isnt (almost) all (popular) shojou like that, though it sounds partcularly hilarious when aplied for VK. She omited one thing, for fangirls, that the unbearable tension (fangirls read UST) between the males main characters. I admit the only thing that attires my attention is the art, yeah THIS kind of Art --> http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g184/enelte/VKavatar.gif

(Can you really blame one for being a fangirl when she stumbles on something like that).
I only watched a few first episodes of the anime and I am not dying for more, but I so wish the mangaka drew some VK s-a doujinshi, I won't ask for yaoi if it's too hard on her ^.^ Speaking of doujinshi, I am amazed that there's no VK's to be found, seeing how slashy the images launched by both the mangaka AND the animators. I'm gonna ask ppl on my flist about this soon.

btw when I first found the images above, I tried to search ppl's opinion on the series and stumbled on a forum, cannot remember which one, where a girl (supposely) complained about her bro telling her that Kanami (the black clothed guy) was GAY, I couldn't hold the laughter XD

Have a look at it while taking a breath from moving. my moving nightmare luckily ended last year and I don't want to revive it for at least two more years. The problem is you become more and more gready everytime you move to a larger place *sigh*

Oooh, that art is *stunning*, especially the big one! I love UST between male main characters (typical fangirl, I know). I am not into anime lately, but those pics make me want to at least take a look...

I moved from a larger place and actually like having less room. I just wish I didn't own so many books...Or had a magical storage facility for them, since I'd probably never really give them up. ^^;

The big one's is the anime art. Isn't it pretty? only to make fangirls drool and grieve ^^; Now that I paid the mentioned review more attention, the author did say the males characters have mutual sexual tension haha she must be a fangirl.

Now is the time you wish for Doreamon's magical pocket huh? XD I had my body ached for 5 days after moving, as the 5 days passed, I in turn wished I had a truck, the one for road constructions that flats the asfalt surface, rolled over me until my muscles got loosen ^^;

Though lately young people seem pretty discerning so I think quite a number might actually laugh at such things...

Ehh, what a review. XD I've read 1st volume of VK because my friend bought it and she couldn't read Chinese. When I want to explain to her about the story the internet started to have English scanlations already and it was a total BOOM where it become popular as ever. The art is very nice but maybe I'm just not into shoujo or something. I've never read it since, I've not even watch the anime. Maybe I will sometime if I'm too bored or if someone lay the volumes of manga in front of me because I have never rejected a manga in front of me before no matter what kind of manga it is. But frankly, I had no idea what is melodrama o.o
