I recognized the name of the author of Immoral Darkness (Fudoutoku na yami from zehivat_lamasu's review as the author of another book I rather like. That set me off on a reread and a desire to summarize it...

Akai Jubaku by Matsuda Miyu and illustrated by Nara Chiharu is about brothers doing the incest thing. I did try to summarize it in detail but gave up after a while because the author has a very chatty style that tired me out. The funny thing is that I disliked this novel the first time I read it. I reread it because I had bought it and I wanted to give it another chance, and I ended up liking it.

This incest feels slightly different from the usual in BL. This family is working class. The mother is working part time at a store, the older brother is a salaryman but the second brother works in construction. The youngest is in school and is pretty normal if spoiled and bratty. He hangs out in the park with friends when not seducing inappropriate older women. The brothers fight and actually hurt each other sometimes. The violence is just part of their normal interactions, rather than some anomaly brought upon by the unnatural situation.

The art is pretty, typical for Nara-sensei. The seme looks a bit icky, which appeals to me greatly. I didn't realize how many sex scenes had been illustrated until I posted them, though!





Youngest brother Hinata is spoiled and bratty, good at getting his way with his older brothers (and the women he seduces). Second brother Ryoushou is a construction worker. Ryoushou is gruff but when push comes to shove is rather soft on Hinata. He's had to take care of Hinata's messes before (like dealing with the husband of the woman Hinata had an affair with) and is sick of it. When he learns that Hinata is dating a teacher at the school, he threatens to cut ties with Hinata if Hinata doesn't break things off with her. Hinata blows him off.




Hinata thinks he's managed to soothe Ryoushou's bad temper until Ryoushou assaults him. Ryoushou ties Hinata up and gives him a blow job. He tells Hinata that he no longer considers Hinata his younger brother. He'd been wanting to fuck Hinata for years...




Hinata is freaked out by Ryoushou, very anxious around him even though Ryoushou doesn't do anything for a while. But then Ryoushou assaults him again, this time going all the way.




Even when their oldest brother comes home to visit Ryoushou forces Hinata to have sex with him. The oldest brother thinks Ryoushou is just bullying Hinata as usual.




More Ryoushou forcing Hinata to have sex, this time in the living room. Hinata is scared that their mother will come home but submits after Ryoushou hits him several times (the most effective way to get Hinata to do anything, apparently). Turns out she was going to be home late. Ryoushou laughs at Hinata's anxiety, at which Hinata hits Ryoushou. That causes Ryoushou to beat the shit out of Hinata.




More sex!




Hinata begs Ryoushou to be nicer to him. Ryoushou tells him he can't.

Turns out Ryoushou has been dating a girl for several years. He brings her over and introduces her to the family. Hinata is filled with loathing for the girlfriend and ends up realizing that he's jealous. He wants Ryoushou for himself. He's miserable. The situation is not helped by the fact that the girlfriend thinks that Hinata has an inappropriate unrequited thing for Ryoushou.





Hinata confesses to his oldest brother that he can't stop thinking about Ryoushou after Ryoushou had forced him to have sex. This results in the oldest brother beating the shit out of Ryoushou. Ryoushou doesn't fight back. Instead he mocks the oldest brother for leaving Hinata alone with him, pointing out that the oldest brother believed Hinata right away and thus must have been aware of Ryoushou's feelings at some level.




Ryoushou decides to move out and live with his girlfriend. Hinata tries one last time to make Ryoushou face his feelings and not run away, and succeeds. They have sex, and Ryoushou reveals his raw feelings. He begs Hinata to reject him. Hinata doesn't give a shit about Ryoushou's angst. He wants Ryoushou, Ryoushou wants him, and he's not letting Ryoushou go. So instead he wraps his arms around Ryoushou and tells him he loves him.

Both brothers are very selfish and willful. Ryoushou had lost to his desire and had raped his own brother numerous times, but had tried to backpedal and distance himself from Hinata--even bringing in his girlfriend to do so. Hinata is used to getting his way, and so when Ryoushou shows him weakness he ruthlessly binds Ryoushou to him instead of doing the "right thing" and letting Ryoushou escape. I enjoyed reading the battle of their selfish desires. XD;

Interesting. The seme sounded like a real asshole (not that Hinata was... all sweet and good, but at least he didn't rape anyone), but then the end is like "What" and "You know, they sort of deserve each other." Eh heh.

I think it worked for me because Hinata figured out that he wanted his brother and forced a confrontation. Too often the asshole just corners his victim and stockholm syndromes him into thinking he's in love. They do deserve each other. XD

It is a lot like Immoral Darkness - they both sound unlikeable and selfish, the Uke goes after older women there is all that rape, the older person trying to be kind and the woman who makes a brief appearance ... heh... I guess she is trying to push some limits... although everything is usually allowed in Yaoi.

I will probably read this if it makes it into English... then again... I give any BL novel in English a try ... sometimes with disastrous results ;_;.

I ended up liking it because the uke actually decided he wanted his brother and spent a lot of time unhappy about the fact that the seme was trying to get away. Usually the uke gives in after being relentlessly pursued (and fucked). They totally deserve each other.

I hope they make it into English. I just love how dark uke and seme is, which kinda hard to find in other story. And to top it off with incest<3 Yay for Matsuda sensei.
