>Fujourina kuchizuke by HImekawa Hotaru is a silly but fun example of an amazingly huge type of BL, the Japanese guy assigned to guard/guide/assist some foreign VIP visiting Japan who ends up in VIPs bed. I think this subgenre has grown on me, even though as usual most books are on the crappy side. This time it's an SP officer assigned to guard a prince and military commander of a small but rich Scandinavian country (I love how these VIPs are almost always from small but rich countries--usually from the Middle East or Europe, and tend to be mixed race) who happens to be half-Japanese. I like this because the serious political side story is particularly lame and the main character is hilariously dense, especially considering his job. The art is pretty and the main character's partner and friend is also a plus.

Good seme Prince Yuuri doing naughty things to our dear SP officer uke Takaya.

Yuuri measuring Takaya up when he first arrives in Japan. Takaya had saved Yuuri's older brother, the current king, from an assassination attempt while in Japan. He'd become interested in Takaya after seeing the video of the assassination attempt and Takaya's awesomeness many, many times.

Takaya is pressured into "pleasing" the VIP with a bit of a push by his boss. Just a hand job this time, though!

That night Takaya is pissed off at the day's events, so he goes out drinking. He meets a Japanese-speaking foreigner, Wilhelm. He ends up drinking too much and wakes up to find himself being fucked. He doesn't realize it at the time as he's still out of it, but when he wakes up the next morning he understands that he's lost his back virginity. He leaves before Wilhelm wakes up to go to work.

After a day guarding Yuuri, he gets fucked again. This time by Yuuri, obviously. I'm impressed that he can stand around all day after getting pounded two days in a row, but I suppose ya gotta chalk it up to his professionalism.

Takaya learns a bit of Yuuri's past when they visit Yuuri's grandfather's house, and they share a tender moment.

Takaya saves Wilhelm from a gang of dudes who run off when Takaya flashes his badge.

"Wilhelm" is jealous of Takaya's partner and friend as they head out to drink after work. Of course it turns out that "Wilhelm" is Yuuri with contacts and something in his hair to make him look blonde. Apparently that and good acting skills is enough to fool the (supposedly) sharp eyes of a professional guard. Takaya doesn't actually realize that Wilhelm is Yuuri until they are shot at and Yuuri produces weapons for defense. Takaya does a good job keeping the attackers at bay until Yuuri's guards/attendants show up (having been called by the Takaya's partner--neither Takaya nor his partner were armed as they weren't working).

Turns out there was a plot to kill the two brothers, the king and the prince, by some people who had been important under their father's reign but not so much now. The brothers had known of the plot and had arranged things so that they could clean everything up in one fell swoop. It was an amazingly stupid plot, even by the standards of this type of novel.

All truth comes out, including Yuuri's obsession with the assassination attempt tape. He imperiously asserts his preferences in the face of Takaya's accusations of being a weird pervert. He likes what he likes, and he will do anything to get what he wants. Of course this leads to hot sex.

At the end of Yuuri's trip, Takaya is given orders to do a year-long..er...I don't know what it'd be called...study abroad assignment in Yuuri's country. You know, learn SP stuff over there, gain more skills. Takaya is a bit mad about the blatant political maneuvering, but in the end he accepts. With a kiss.

The most amusing part of the whole thing for me is when Takaya's partner indicates that he's fully aware of Takaya and Yuuri's relationship. The partner wonders why Takaya, who'd totally ignored all indications of interest from guys until now, had suddenly decided to respond to Yuuri. He knows Takaya well enough to know that Takaya would not be forced into anything he truly didn't want to be. He comments that he hadn't known that Takaya had such high standards (Yuuri is absolutely gorgeous, natch). Takaya is shocked by his partner's comments and asks if he's always been popular with guys, even going back to the police academy. Takaya's partner is dumbfounded. WTF? Takaya hadn't known? Hadn't Takaya ever looked into a damn mirror before?

Takaya is portrayed as a raging straight guy all his life, but he sure gets used to gay sex real quick. I actually appreciated that he didn't screech about the situation while still being fucked like too many ukes do. So it's unrealistic. At least we aren't subjected to token angst/conflict. ^^;

Yeah, my standards are low. :P

I've always thought that series with this kind of plot somehow are amazing with an awesomeness that cannot come from earth. Make me want to bow before them.

LOL, I don't know if I'd call the plot "amazing"...

Ahaha... what. I can understand being dense enough not to know when other guys are eyeing him, but to be too dense not to figure out Wilhelm is Yuuri is a little... ^^;;

Plot aside, the illustrations are indeed gorgeous ♥

I don't read much of this type of story too, except Deadlock's Gaiden "Simplex"- it was also seme x bodyguard uke. I didn't actually read the novel for this, or for Deadlock even. But I just had to listed to the drama cd beause it's a very, verrrry rare Toochika Kouichi (Neji from Naruto) bl drama ^w^

Yes, the whole Wilhelm = Yuuri thing is totally stupid. I haven't read SImplex as the uke sounds a bit bleah to me.

It was... pretty disappointing. For me at least, because at the end, I felt like the uke was more of a side character than one of the main. So I didn't really read the novel anymore. I was really looking forward to it too because he's such a rare voice actor in BL dramas. T__T
