damn pot, and scanlations...

ARG! Today turned out to be anime marathon day. After whiling the morning away, I decided to rewatch Yukikaze, then I figured I'd watch some PoT. I didn't realize the Junior Senbatsu started in the 130s...unfortunately, I am stuck at ep 141 where we are treated to Atobe's confession of his love for Tezuka, aka the whole spiel he subjects Sanada to. It's a bit annoying since that's the episode where we get to see the lovely Kevin, whom I've heard so much about but haven't gotten to experience for myself. *sigh* Not like that one episode will get me much farther, since I have a gap from that to 147 anyhow. Ah, well. I feel antsy but there's nothing I can really do about it. And the crap download rate ensures that I will get the stupid file tomorrow, anyway. *sigh*

In any case, some scanlations I've worked on are out today. First, xandria and I have released the last chapter from Side Story of Tokyo Savage, A Passage From Servant Boy volume 1 by Dr. Ten. :D It can be downloaded at Xandria's site. More pointless smut--though very amusing pointless smut. ^_^

A cute AkiHika Hikago doujinshi I worked on with starchanchan, Black x White, has been released at Dragonfly.

I've never tried that Dr. Ten... for some reason, I was of the impression it was like very graphic, BDSM or something... *sigh*... gonna have to try to see what it's about...

Oh, it's very graphic. But there was enough story and character that it sucked me in. ^_^ You can give it a try, I suppose...

It's quite graphic with dubious shades of non con but that's really difficult to determine because I think Mamoru brings the "slut" out in everyone. But Tomoe (<3) puts up with Mamoru's "advances" and "molestations" for seemingly very "secret mission" type reasons (he's such a self sacraficing little ninja). Further, every time Mamoru puts the moves on someone, it's not without legitimate reason.

It's strange because while the book drew me for the smut, and even though the "screaming ukes" annoyed me, once Insaneneko explained the plot to me, I stopped caring about the smut. Even when I got Volume 4 recently, I skimmed right past the smut looking to see what happened. The subsequent volumes are just riddled with a complex plot that causes one's mind to melt.

I don't know if it's your cup of tea, but the character interactions and story just endear me to it in a way the smut can't.

I knew that about you. ;-) I get drawn to both, but I'm not ashamed to say Dr. Ten strokes my G-spot in a major way, and once I learned what the story was about by way of the lovely Insaneneko, my adoration of Dr. Ten skyrocketed and the smut appeal took a back seat (although my absolute LOVE of Mamoru increases exponentially).

But even the smut is funny as hell sometimes -- or the lead in. Give it a whirl. See if it works for you, but be cautioned. It's silly, serious and smutty all in one and I must say I've never seen such a clever and well woven combination of those three in a series or manga before.

I DO like smut (Haru comes to mind) but yeah... smut for smut sake is not really the draw for me. I'm a sucker for plot :)

I'll check it tomorrow. Now I'm tired and must go to bed... I'm always tired after a good cry-a-thon... it burns out all my energy, somehow.

And yeah, I'm a major sucker for plot which is why this series owns me (plot WITH smut -- what a concept). hee. Oh, be warned, there is a sounding scene (catheter sound being inserted in the urethra) in one chapter but the wonderful thing about that scene (unless you know sounding) is that Mamoru uses the dull as opposed to sharper end of the sound because he adores his little ninja.

You know how I gush over this series. heee. But I know it's not for everyone too. I want Volume 5 dammit, but I fear it will be almost another year before that happens. I so don't like the way Volume 4 ended. But I'm a huge Mamoru x Tomoe fan.

It's a hard series to really pimp, though. It's so graphic, and some people probably can't overcome their aversion for that...even with the awesome characters and intriguing story.

And of course Mamoru x Tomoe forever!

On the one hand I want to just shout, "look at the pretty artwork, see how beautifully Mamoru is drawn, and isn't Tomoe just adorable etc." but I don't want to mislead either.

I wonder if this is why Dr. Ten hasn't gained the popularity I think she deserves? She mixes a heavy dose of plot with smut and if a readership is turned off by the gratuitious sex, they won't see the plot. And then yet for me it was the opposite -- "oh, nice smut...whoa...plot...most excellent". But now I don't care about the smut so much (repeating self, sorry).

Ahhh well. I'm very grateful to have your wondrous hand around the translations of this one.

It's hard to see the plot amongst the smut if you can't read Japanese, unfortunately. And I'm sure a lot of people are turned off by the amount of sex, even with the story. :P

But that's okay, we've managed to convert tons of people into Dr. Ten fans. ^_^
