The other night I managed to download the cd drama of Hidarite wa kare no yume wo miru (The left hand dreams of him), the novel written by Kannagi Satoru and illustrated by Odagiri Hotaru. The thing is...I think the post has been deleted. It must have been uploaded to either
seiyuu or more likely
bl_dramas but...it's gone. I almost want to say I imagined it except that the files are sitting on my HD.
In any case, the drama CD came out last month, and it covers the first of two stories in the second book of the series. It skips the second story of the first novel, which covers the period when Yuuichi is studying for his college entrance exams, in which there are various misunderstandings and the like, and they have sex for the first time. In the second novel it's been a year and it's Wataru's turn to be studying for exams. Yuuichi is in a good college and is living on his own. I ended doing a very detailed (if completely unproofed) "summary" of the entire thing for anyone that does have it...
Track 1
Wataru wakes up after spending the night at Yuuichi's apartment. He is surprised to find Yuuichi still asleep because he's always the one that oversleeps. He notices that Yuuichi has quite a cute sleeping face, even though usually he always treats Wataru like a child. Wataru then quickly summarizes the events of a year ago when they met and got together.
Yuuichi wakes up and at first is grumpy that Wataru had woken up before him, but then starts teasing him about how he must have finally gotten "used to things" two months after Yuuichi had moved into his apartment. He remarks how they end up lacking sleep all weekend and how it's inevitable since they're now able to "immerse themselves" without distraction. He's happy that Wataru has gradually become more "active." Wataru tells Yuuichi to stop saying things in such a dirty way and calls him a pervert. Yuuichi laughs and tells Wataru he loves him. Wataru replies in the same way, and they begin to immerse themselves again...
Track 2
Kawamura and Wataru are studying in the library afterschool. Kawamura complains that Wataru has a private tutor who scored 27th in the nationwide model exam [1] and had risen quite a bit in rank. Wataru was depressed that he had tried for the same level school as Yuuichi and had done terribly. Wataru sighs over the fact that he'll be busy with preparing for exams this summer, while last summer it had been Yuuichi's turn.
Yuuichi and Wataru are meeting in the quiet cafe they used to meet at when Yuuichi was in high school. Yuuichi comments that there are no young people patronizing the establishment and that now that he had graduated only Wataru is a regular. Wataru mutters that it's not fun by himself. When Yuuichi asks what's wrong, Wataru complains that they can't do what they please after Yuuichi's exams because his were coming up. Yuuichi is exasperated, saying he had been saying that would happen the whole time. He's a bit surprised that Wataru is being negative, with an aside that he thought Wataru was as tough as a weed (his emphasis). More seriously, he tells Wataru that he has more free time now, and he can adjust to Wataru's schedule. Whenever Wataru wants to see him he can call him, and he will come. Even if it's only for a minute because it's better than not seeing Wataru at all. He asks Wataru to promise not to pretend to be stoic as it is better to be honest with each other.
A sempai from Yuuichi's college enters the cafe. He greets the proprietor familiarly, and seems to be a recent regular. He goes to pay the tab. In the meantime, Wataru notices the sempai staring at him.
Yuuichi is looking through a part time job magazine in the cafeteria when the sempai, Asaka Masanobu, approaches. Masanobu had been inviting Yuuichi to join his renovation circle. Yuuichi again declines, saying he doesn't plan on going into architecture. Yuuichi excuses himself when Masanobu asks if the boy Yuuichi was with was his younger brother. Yuuichi tells him that it was a kouhai from high school. Masanobu casually comments that Yuuichi didn't have a younger brother, only an older brother 12 years older who was an architect. Yuuichi is suprised that Masanobu knows that, but Masanobu continues on saying that Wataru had an interesting face. Wataru's feelings were directly conveyed by just looking at his face. He figures people like himself or Yuuichi get tired of talking with a person like that. Yuuichi excuses himself saying classes would start soon, wondering about Masanobu.
Track 3
Wataru and Yuuichi are on the balcony of Yuuichi's apartment. Wataru really likes the balcony. He suggests they celebrate Yuuichi's upcoming birthday on the balcony. Yuuichi tells him he's been seeing too many TV dramas. Wataru wants to do something because it's the first such day since they've started going out. Yuuichi suggests that they take a trip out of Tokyo during the summer break. Wataru is happy but hesitates because he realizes that Yuuichi was looking for a job so that they could go on a trip. Yuuichi laughs that his secret was out. Yuuichi tells him he's serious about the trip and presses him for an answer. When Wataru doesn't answer immediately Yuuichi embraces and kisses him. Wataru thinks how Yuuichi's kisses remind him of a shoal in spring, the calm, bright sea that he was taken to when he was a child. He decides the sea would be nice to go to. He knows it's a bit predictable, but he wonders how wonderful kissing Yuuichi at the sea would be. Yuuichi asks why Wataru was smiling to himself. Wataru denies it, Yuuichi asserts it, Wataru denies it again and they both laugh. Wataru thinks he'd have to get a part time job if they were going on a trip.
Track 4
Yuuichi is against Wataru working at all. Wataru protests that he only wants to work a brief time for money for the trip. Yuuichi tells him he needs to devote himself to studying. He insists that he will handle the costs of this trip. Wataru asks why Yuuichi likes to act like a guardian when they're only one year apart in age. Yuuichi tells him he's certainly more mature than Wataru. He doesn't make a scene and become the center of attention like they were now because of Wataru's outburst. As Wataru was retorting, Masanobu comes up to them.
Masanobu addresses Wataru, commenting that while he's physically small his voice is loud. Wataru recognizes Masanobu, who introduces himself. Yuuichi interrupts their pleasantries by asking what Masanobu was doing there covered in paint. Masanobu replies that they were in the middle of working on their renovation circle project nearby. He invites them to stop by for a bit. Wataru agrees to stop by. Yuuichi explains that the circle is made up mostly of architecture students and they renovate modern buildings to be used for a different purpose. Wataru is amazed at the inside of the building, which is going to be made into a gallery and cafe from a private home. The basic remodeling was done by pros, and they were simply doing the interior design and work. Everyone descends on them, asking for the drinks and cigarettes Masanobu was out buying. They notice Yuuichi there and thinks Masanobu was finally got Yuuichi to join. He confesses that Yuuichi was only visiting and that he had forgotten to buy the things. Wataru likes the atmosphere of the group. The others notice Wataru and ask about him. Yuuichi introduces him to the group. Wataru realizes that both he and Yuuichi were wearing their rings. He starts worrying that strange rumors might start flying around at college if anyone notices the rings. Masanobu says he will go and buy the stuff and asks Wataru to come with him, taking his hand. Wataru thinks as Masanobu pulls him along that while the ring is concealed Yuuichi's gaze was painfully obvious. Outside, Masanobu lets him go and tells him he can take off the ring now. He assures Wataru that no one else noticed it. He explains that Yuuichi's ring had been the subject of rumors since he had entered college. He goes on to say that Yuuichi was prepared for their relationship to be exposed by coming. He understands Wataru's desire to protect Yuuichi. Wataru finds his anxieties disappearing when Masanobu talks. Masanobu asks Wataru to along with him on his errand. Wataru agrees to, and takes of his ring. He felt a small ache when he does so.
Track 5
As Wataru and Yuuichi return to Yuuichi's place after grocery shopping. Yuuichi mutters that he's not pleased. Wataru thinks that Yuuichi isn't pleased about what they were making for dinner. Yuuichi responds that he's not pleased about Masanobu. He's upset that Masanobu had covered for Wataru, even taking his hand. Yuuichi knows why Masanobu did what he did, but he's still upset that Masanobu had helped out Wataru. Wataru apologizes but defends Masanobu as having done it out of good will. Yuuichi asks if Wataru actually thinks he will just accept that it was out of good will, having had the two of them cordially depart hand in hand. He switches gear, asking if Wataru is bothered over the rings.Yuuichi admits that he knows that Wataru would be hurt at being the object of curiousity, and he doesn't want Wataru to go through that. Wataru, seeing Yuuichi vexed, embraces him. Wataru apologizes, saying he was worried about Yuuichi's standing at college. He again mentions how Masanobu is a good guy. Yuuichi is exasperated that Wataru keeps mentioning Masanobu. He tells him he's upset because Masanobu was the one that got Wataru to take off the ring. He wanted to be the one that took Wataru's ring off if he had to. Wataru feels an ache like when he had taken off the ring. Yuuichi asks Wataru to give him his left hand. Yuuichi decides to let Wataru decide when to wear and take off the ring. It's more upset that Masanobu would touch him so casually. Yuuichi kisses Wataru's hand and tells him to see only him, as he only sees Wataru.
Track 6
After school, Wataru was going on a date with Yuuichi when he gets a message from Yuuichi that he had gotten a job and would contact him that night. Wataru is dismayed that the date is canceled at the last minute.
Yuuichi calls Wataru late that night. Wataru asks what his job was. Yuuichi tells him he will be helping Masanobu's circle for several weeks on their project. Masanobu asked him if he wanted to help out not as a circle member but as a part-timer. As the pay was quite good for a temporary job, he agreed. He tells Wataru that he'll be busy with work after classes. He tells Wataru to come and visit if he felt like it. He apologizes about canceling their date and says goodbye.
Kawamura is in high spirits as he accompanies Wataru to the project site. He claims he won't expose Wataru and Yuuichi, and will take on any of the college girls that get in their way. Wataru tells him that's not why. Masanobu greets Wataru, who thanks him for the other time but won't look Masanobu straight in the face as Masanobu continues talking to him. Masanobu pulls Wataru's ear, which prompts him to look up and ask why he did that. Masanobu though Wataru was mad at him for pulling Yuuichi into the work which would leave no time for the two of them. He confirms with Kawamura that he knows about the two of them, figuring Wataru wouldn't have brought him otherwise. Masanobu then excuses himself as he has things to do.
Kawamura demands to know who that was. He comments that Masanobu and Yuuichi were very similar. He wonders why that rare type of individual shows up around Wataru. Wataru doesn't think they are very similiar, listing their differences. Kawamura reminds him that Yuuichi was very much like Masanobu back in high school--responsible and kind to everyone. Kawamura comments that it's odd for Wataru to let someone touch him so casually.
Track 7
Kawamura is amazed at the difference between the outside and inside. Kawamura offers help to a girl who asks if he's visiting. Wataru sees Yuuichi working hard and seriously on a mirror, being advised by Masanoru. Masanoru brings Wataru coffee, and notices that Wataru had not worn his ring as well. Wataru sees that Yuuichi isn't wearing his ring either. Yuuichi tells him it's so that it doesn't get damaged. He has no other reason to take it off. He points out that Wataru is being inconsistent as he isn't wearing his either. Masanobu laughs and says the two are adorable. They are very different apart and together, especially Yuuichi. Yuuichi asks him to leave them alone.
Yuuichi and Wataru are in a Familys restaurant. Yuuichi prompts Wataru to talk. Wataru says he won't go visit him when he's working because he'll get in the way and Yuuichi is busy. Yuuichi demands that Wataru tell him the truth. He wouldn't have invited Wataru if he would be in the way. Wataru confesses that he couldn't stand being there. He didn't understand why Yuuichi had taken the job. Yuuichi thinks that Wataru had been disillusioned seeing Yuuichi getting scolded. Wataru explains that he felt shameful for casually visiting when Yuuichi was working so hard. Wataru had forgotten that Yuuich was human and would be bewildered at something new. He goes on to say how Masanobu commented that Yuuichi was like a different person with Wataru, and felt that it would be inappropriate for Yuuichi to only mind Wataru and not concentrate on work. He felt he'd be in the way in the end. Yuuichi asks Wataru if he wants to see him. Wataru says yes. Yuuichi asks if he can call Wataru when he wants to see him just as he had told Wataru to do earlier. He doesn't want to quit because Masanobu will laugh at him. He grudgingly acknowledges that while Masanobu treats people in a gentle way, he is thinking ahead of everyone. Masanobu had spoken with the owner to get Yuuichi the job. He wonders what kind of chicanery Masanobu had pulled to manage that. Wataru points out that Masanobu must think that highly of him. Yuuichi says Masanobu thinks highly of his looks, his mind, and his personal connections. Yuuichi explains that his brother is an architect, and he had been the one to design the project the circle was working on. He figures that if he's pulled in if something should happen things might be more accommodating. Yuuichi goes on to note that Masanobu's special in that kind of motive doesn't rub people the wrong way. He admits that Masanobu was probably the kind of person Wataru thinks he is. Yuuichi states that he doesn't like Masanobu. He knows it's not Masanobu's fault. Masanobu is a capable guy. Yuuichi wants to know why he doesn't like him. He decided when Masanobu had pulled Wataru outside that he would figure out what about Masanobu makes him anxious. He figures he should run away from it.
Wataru thinks about how Yuuichi is a very gentle guy. He always thinks about what the other person thinks and acts the way they would want him to. He is perplexed by the negative feelings he has towards Masanobu.
Yuuichi points out that Wataru feels relieved when he's around Masanobu. He can tell by his face. As he's about to talk more, the waitress asks if they are ready to order. Yuuichi comments that he might have spoken too much and says he will leave. Wataru hurriedly goes after him, when Yuuichi grabs his hand and stares at the ring finger without his ring on it. Yuuichi says goodbye and leaves.
Track 8
Wataru had gone on an errand for the people working on the project. He is affectionately called "Kouhai-chan." He's popular with everyone and helping out. Masanobu asks if he's not lonely because Yuuichi is busy. Wataru says he doesn't mind. Masanobu comments that Yuuichi is a fast learner and is quickly relied upon. He's even giving opinions on the display.
Yuuichi asks Wataru to buy some paint that's about to run out. Masanobu offers to go with him because Wataru can't carry it all. As they are walking together, Wataru asks Masanobu to not do things that will irritate Yuuichi. Masanobu notes that Yuuichi doesn't like him. He figures it doesn't matter what he does, Yuuichi won't like him. He tells Wataru that while they were talking, Yuuichi had been paying quite a bit of attention to them. Yuuichi had been sullen because Wataru hadn't noticed at all. Masanobu advises him to be more depend and presume upon Yuuichi, and to not pretend to be stoic. Wataru is struck by the use of the same words and how similar the two are.
When they return, everyone is gathered around. The small shelf that another person was working on wasn't fitting with the mirror Yuuichi was working on. The other person is yelling that the mirror's size should be adjusted because things can't be displayed without a shelf. Masanobu asks which one is not the right size. When the person who was explaining the situation says the shelf, Masanobu tells the guy that he'll help fix the shelf. They can't shave down a mirror with their skills. He asks him to yield in this case. He overcomes his protests saying they can fix the shelf, explaining that it'll go faster the second time and that things won't look right without one or the other. He manages to get the guy to agree. The girls comment that the "Asaka Magic" has made its appearance. You end up feeling like you can do anything when he says it...and he actually makes it happen.
But Yuuichi says he can't consent. He asks that they do the fitting of the mirror as well as it was not his mistake that caused this setback. He had asked repeatedly if the mirror was in the right place. Both the guy who made the shelf and Masanobu had agreed numerous times. The other guy starts yelling about how it's a collaboration and comments that he's just a part-timer when Yuuichi interrupts him saying he will be going home now because he can't work. He abruptly leaves with Wataru.
Wataru tells Yuuichi that it wasn't like him and that he has to go back. Yuuichi asks what does "being like him" entail. Yuuichi figures having one like Masanobu is enough. He's mad about Masanobu's words earlier. Wataru can't believe that Yuuichi would just abandon his work over something like that, no matter that he doesn't like Masanobu. Yuuichi doesn't care how he was, he demands that Wataru think about how he was. Wataru replies that he was just talking to Masanobu. He asks why Yuuichi doesn't tell him not to show up. He knows Yuuichi doesn't like it when Wataru talks to Masanobu. He demands to know what he should do. Is he supposed to just vacantly stare at Yuuichi's face and go home? Yuuichi asks if he's not satisfied with just looking at his face. Wataru can't respond, because he likes Yuuichi's face. Yuuichi taunts him to say something back. Wataru tells him he's being mean. Yuuichi thanks him for praising him. He tells Wataru to go home and will go back to work. He just needed to get out and will apologize. As he's walking away, Wataru yells that he won't show up anymore, fed up with Yuuichi's actions.
Masanobu shows up, asking if Wataru was okay. He had heard Wataru yelling. When Wataru apologizes, Masanobu tells him he was just a bit surprised that Wataru could talk like that. He knows that Yuuichi was just letting his anger out. Wataru mutters that he wishes they had never planned on going on a trip since things turned out this way. He explains that Yuuichi was working so that they could go on a trip, so he didn't want to make Yuuichi disagreeable, but they easily fight. He knows that even if it's someone he cares for, he can't not fight against something unreasonable. If he doesn't, he couldn't be Yuuichi's equal. Masanobu tells Wataru that he thinks he's correct. Wataru gets the sense that Masanobu is terribly lonely.
Track 9
A week later, Wataru has come to see Yuuichi. He figures they weren't children and shouldn't let things linger, and that Yuuichi was waiting for him too. He's told by a nearby girl that Yuuichi was very reliable and was working well even with the guy he had the fight with before. He hears laughing voices and suddenly decides to leave. He was terribly sad, feeling that a Yuuichi he didn't know was growing in this place. He runs into Masanobu. Masanobu takes him to a tasty cafe to calm down.
In the cafe, Masanobu comments that he was going around to different cafes for ideas, and finds it strange that Wataru was at both of the two cafes he liked, the other being the one they first met in. He's happy that he can have tea with Wataru whom he likes in a cafe he likes. Masanobu comments that Yuuichi was getting along with everyone. Even he didn't think he'd get along so well. He knows that Wataru had suddenly felt lonely. He had endured wanting to see Yuuichi for a week, finally finding the courage to come by only to find Yuuichi having fun. He comments that usually a boyfriend would either be mad or sulk. Masanobu had a girlfriend he had dated from intermediate to high school. She was very cute, and very willful. Wataru is very gallant in comparison to her. Masanobu says he's jealous of Yuuichi, because Wataru is always filled with his love for Yuuichi to his very fingertips. Wataru is bothered because he loves Yuuichi too much. Masanobu says he just can't ignore Wataru who is like that. Wataru shows his feelings easily, so when he's sad he shows it, when he's happy he's very happy. But his face is the best when he's looking at Yuuichi. Masanobu knows that their relationship has more obstacles than most, but they can't continue to be tense over it. That kind of tension can't last, regardless of the gender of the couple. He advises Wataru that he should have more composure. Wataru again acknowledges that he feels relieved around Masanobu. He realizes that Masanobu is what Yuuichi would be if he knew how to relax properly.
Some girls from the circle barge in, looking for Masanobu. Yuuichi was injured by the mirror. It hadn't been properly installed. He was immediately sent to the hospital by taxi. He had cut his left hand was bleeding profusely. Wataru asks where the hospital and dashes off. He can't believe that he was leisurely drinking tea while Yuuichi was getting hurt.
Track 10
Yuuichi finds Wataru sleeping at his front door. Wataru throws himself on him. Yuuichi snidely comments what a heated greeting, just because it's been a while. Wataru had gone to the hospital but was told Yuuichi had left. He came to Yuuichi's apartment but Yuuichi had gone back to check on work. Wataru asks about Yuuichi's hand. Wataru offers to come and cook for Yuuichi since he can't use one hand. Yuuichi thanks him but says he's not hungry. Yuuichi pulled him onto the bed suddenly. Yuuichi had a question for Wataru. He heard that Wataru had come to see him, but had suddenly left as if running away. He was also with Masanobu when he heard about Yuuichi's injury. Yuuichi doesn't care who Wataru is with, but he wants to confirm that Wataru had come to see him.
Wataru was feeling sad for days after fighting with Yuuichi. He figured Yuuichi was the same but when he went he saw that Yuuichi was properly doing his work. He had wanted Yuuichi to be that way, but he felt really sad. As if Yuuichi had become someone he didn't know.
Yuuichi states that Wataru had ignored him for a week, then ended up choosing Masanobu over him because he was lonely. He tells Wataru not to be indulged by someone other than him. Yuuichi wants to know what Wataru is seeking from Masanobu, what about him is causing Wataru to feel anxious.
Wataru replies that he's only seen Yuuichi, that he's always only seen Yuuichi. It's painful sometimes, but he's never regretted it. He doesn't have the composure to think about what kind of face he makes around Masanobu. He relates how he was overcome by the thought that he may never see Yuuichi again. Yuuichi tells him not to kill him off. Wataru bursts out that Yuuichi doesn't know, and that was why he could say such things so easily. Yuuichi asks what is it that he doesn't know. Wataru replies that it's the fact that he loves Yuuichi too much. While Masanobu was the one that said it to him, he thinks it's right. He's fallen in love with Yuuichi repeatedly. That was why he doesn't care what kind of face he makes to anyone. Wataru knew Yuuichi's feelings and didn't want to bring up a baseless anxiety. Yuuichi asserts that he definitely doesn't like Masanobu. Masanobu can easily usurp what should be Yuuichi's privilege. That's why he had invited Wataru to the project, to show Masanobu the two of them and have him leave them alone. Yuuichi felt helpless at Masanobu's attitude of seeing through and knowing everything. Yuuichi doesn't need anyone to understand because he loves Wataru no matter what. Wataru tells Yuuichi he loves him. Yuuichi tells him to not cry. Wataru protests that he's not crying, but Yuuichi calls him an idiot, because he was crying. He asks if he's a child, then licks his tears. When Wataru asks what he was doing licking his tears, Yuuichi replies that he's going to kiss him. And does so.

Wataru: "Kazuki, I love you..."
Wataru: "I really love your kisses..."
Yuuichi: "Only my kisses?"
Wataru: "I love how your voice gets softer only at times like this. You're proud, but acts a little spoiled. Hey, Kazuki, when we're like this I feel like we'll be all right no matter what happens."
Yuuichi: "You are a simple one"
Yuuichi: "What luck that my injury was on my left hand."
Wataru: "Kazuki, don't overdo it. Your hand..."
Yuuichi: "You want me to overdo it, right?"
Wataru: "I don't..."
Track 11
Wataru is waiting for Yuuichi to show up after work. He's late. Masanobu shows up. Yuuichi had asked Masanobu to let Wataru know that Yuuichi had something he had to do at work. Masanobu was happy to do so since he could go on a date with Wataru.
Masanobu asks Wataru to listen to what he has to say. It might be his last chance, because Yuuichi's part time work is almost over and Wataru will become busy with studying. Wataru is more than willing to listen. He asks Masanobu to say such sad things like this is the last time. They sit on a nearby bench. Masanobu brings up the girlfriend he had mentioned. She had died a year ago in a traffic accident. They had broken up but had still been friends. He had received quite a shock. He admits that she had broken up with him. He thought they had gotten along well. He had done everything he could. But it backfired. She had said that she loved him too much and it was too painful. So they had broken up. He had continued to love her and had been quite depressed when she had died.
Masanobu's ex and Wataru were very similar in their attitude in love. That was why he couldn't leave Wataru alone. Masanobu became anxious because Wataru had been looking at Yuuichi in the same way Masanobu's ex had used to look at him when he first saw Wataru in the cafe. Masanobu didn't want Wataru to end up like this ex, ruined by his own love. His ex had loved him very much, but in the end was terribly exhausted. She had cried, asking to go back to being friends. He didn't want Yuuichi and Wataru to end up like that. But he was surprised that Wataru could yell at Yuuichi. He then saw Wataru with new eyes. He realized that Wataru was the type to become stronger when cornered. Masanobu understood when he saw Wataru's face as he said he had to fight why Yuuichi had chosen Wataru despite him being a boy. Yuuichi must have been unconsciously looking for someone who would grow stronger by being in love with him. Masanobu describes Wataru as being as tough as a weed, as positive as the sun, yet as delicate as a ring on a ring finger. He figures Yuuichi must be engrossed in Wataru because he saw all of that in him.
Wataru thanks Masanobu. He had always been full of love for Yuuichi, but he feels he's learned a little of the knack of being loved without reservation thanks to Masanobu. He feels more confident. Yuuichi won't change because they are living different lives. He can believe in Yuuichi's love. Masanobu figures Yuuichi will show up soon. He sticks out his left hand to shake hands and says goodbye. He tells Wataru that this isn't a final goodbye. He really likes Wataru, and wants him to think of this as a pause until they meet again. He figures Wataru won't forget him, just as he certainly won't forget Wataru. They now have a connection that has nothing to do with Yuuichi. That was why he had told Wataru about his ex-girlfriend. Wataru says goodbye.
Yuuichi shows up, apologizing for making Wataru wait. He thanks Masanobu. Masanobu wonders about Yuuichi's motives, but Yuuichi tells him he doesn't think of him as an enemy. Wataru asks about the exchange, again saying that Masanobu is a really good guy. Yuuichi simply replies that he knows. Wataru tells him happy birthday. Yuuichi grumbles that troubles appear every year, and that this time looked like it would be prolonged. Wataru doesn't know what problem Yuuichi is referring to.
Yuuichi reminds Wataru that he had been working for their trip. He shows him airplane tickets. Wataru wouldn't chose a place to go, so he decided on his own. They were going to the sea. In two weeks they were going to Okinawa for a three night four day trip. He tells him to "be prepared" for it. Yuuichi asks for his birthday present, even though he had said earlier that he couldn't accept a present from someone who couldn't even pay for the trip. He tells Wataru to be prepared because he was going to be quite domineering in Okinawa. He tells Wataru to work hard. He asks, "You'll do anything I say, right?" He laughs at Wataru's weak protest. They kiss.
The season was about to change.
Our kiss after a year together smelled of rain.
THE END

Notes:
[1] In the first novel, Yuuichi had placed 27th in the nation because he had studied like mad...because he got Wataru to promise to sleep with him if he placed in the top 30. Basically, he came out and told Wataru he wanted to have sex with him. Wataru was taken aback because he felt that kind of thing happened naturally. Yuuichi, apparently feeling impatient or something, gets Wataru to promise. There's a whole bunch of things that happen while Yuuichi is a studying demon including Wataru losing his ring and being blackmailed by a first year female student, misunderstandings and the whole lot. But of course it all sorts itself out and it ends sweetly. Don't really feel like summarizing it all right now (besides, I've forgotten the details and would have to reread the stupid thing to do so). :P

I don't know if I like Masanobu's voice. Or, more like he wasn't what I was expecting. I suppose I could get used to it. I still love Wataru and Yuuichi's voices. XD I love how Yuuichi is always so mean and teasing to Wataru, and then casually does or says something incredibly romantic...
In any case, I think my mutterings about Masanobu in book 3 probably make more sense now with some real background. XD There is another story in book 2 that covers the actual Okinawa trip, where Wataru first meets Yuuichi's older brother.
I can't believe I actually spent so much time writing this up last night. I couldn't go to sleep until I had finished a substantial portion of this. I hope I can stay awake today. Man, I am such a fan of this series...

Track 7

I can't believe I actually spent so much time writing this up last night. I couldn't go to sleep until I had finished a substantial portion of this. I hope I can stay awake today. Man, I am such a fan of this series...

Date: 2005-05-06 09:23 am (UTC)As far as potential love rivals go, Masanobu doesn't seem too bad, in that I get the impression that he approves of Yuuichi and Wataru's relationship. Not that that seems to be any comfort to Yuuichi.
~Sigh~ I really hope DMP goes ahead and translates the novels. (They already have over 2500 signatures...how many more are they waiting for?) I want to read about Wataru and Yuuichi going on actual dates and their time in Okinawa together. But most of all I want to read about horny, study demon Yuuichi. XD

Date: 2005-05-08 05:55 am (UTC)I like Masanobu a lot. He didn't even give off love rival vibes in this novel for me (though I couldn't pin down what he was supposed to be). It helps that he's gorgeous.

Date: 2005-05-16 05:21 am (UTC)In some ways it's good that Masanobu is sort of a is-he-or-isn't-he love rival. There are way to many cliche ex-lover/family arranged fiance love rivals out there. On the other hand...fully fleshing him out as a character like this makes him more of a legitimate threat.
But I guess with the probable hundreds of girls chasing after Yuuichi there'd have to be a fairly solid, 'dangerous' love rival for Wataru to even things out. But to tell the truth, I was thinking that it might be Wataru's ex-girlfriend (who's name I forget) that would be filling that role. Is it possible to like a character you've never even seen? I don't know if she shows up in the novels but from the sliver we get in the manga I can kind of imagine her to be quite cool and laid-back. Probably because Wataru talks about them having a mutual breakup.
And the drama CD is great...I love the boys' sleepy morning voices. ^_^
