Shitsuji no tokken (Butler's privilege) by Eda Yuuri, the wonderful master-servant BL novel I went nuts over (in this post), was made into a cd drama. The drama is available for download here. Unfortunately, it's only so-so. I have to agree with some of the comments in the post that think the voice actors weren't the best choices for these roles. Otoya needs to be more aristocratic and haughty. Shinobu is also...somehow off to me. I'd think a lower (or more forceful) voice would have been better. And of course you only get bits and pieces of the novel and it ends up being a bit choppy.

But what makes the cd drama worth getting is the short story in the booklet, Aruji no tokken (Master's privilege). Set after the end of the novel, I squealed reading it. OMG it's so sweet!

One morning Shinobu is abruptly told that he has the day off. He doesn't really want to go out, but is basically forced to. He's told to be back by seven. He figures something is up and is a bit put out that he's not being told about it, but can't do anything but go out. On the way a young woman asks him the way to the mansion. He directs her, wondering why Otoya didn't want him to know about a guest. He feels very left out.

He goes to Shinjuku. First he checks out a bookstore. He picks up a book on gardening and two cookbooks. He has been working in the garden because Otoya has recently been interested in the garden, especially a plot of lavender that he grows for lavender tea to someday serve Otoya. Otoya is a very picky eater, so Shinobu picks out several cookbooks with recipes he thinks Otoya will like. After that, he goes to a department store. First he orders organic cotton towels for Otoya's sensitive skin. He also picks up oil for after bath massages, choosing a rose scent that would suit Otoya and a peppermint scent appropriate for summer. He also buys a hat and shirt for Otoya to walk the garden in, and a porcelain spoon for Otoya to eat his dessert with because the salesperson told him it was easier on the tongue than metal. See the pattern? He's only buying things for Otoya. He's not consciously doing it, he just ends up doing it. As he takes a break at a cafe, Shinbou thinks that there's nothing he wants. He'd already gotten what he wanted the most, his willful and insensitive master. The only other thing he'd want is his master's complete trust.

Tired of shopping but finding it too early to go back, he takes in a movie. Next to him is a couple, and he watches them enviously. He'd love to do something like this with Otoya, but knows that it'd be pretty well impossible. He wants to take Otoya all over the place if Otoya someday got over the OCD. On screen is a scene where the main characters are running along the water on a beach. Shinobu fantasizes walking barefoot on a beach with Otoya, finding a pretty shell, wiping it on his sleeve and showing it to Otoya. And he thinks how wonderful it'd be if Otoya's hands as he took the shell from Shinobu weren't wearing gloves.

Shinbou tells himself that someday it'll happen. He has to be patient and not push. He has all the time in the world, because he's chosen to be with Otoya for the rest of his life. (How I love this kind of devotion. *_*)

He gets back a little after seven. Otoya, who had been waiting for him in the entrance hall, scolds him for being late. Shinobu notes that Otoya was looking very stunning in a white suit. Otoya orders Shinobu to go to the main dining room. Upon entering he's surprised by a loud "Happy Birthday!" Shinobu realizes that today was his birthday. The guests at his surprise party consisted of various people he knew through Otoya and the company, as well as some of his friends and even his mother. The butler tells him that Otoya had planned it all. When he turns goes over to thank his master, Otoya, his face flushed, averts his eyes. Shinobu realizes that white suit and everything was for him. He has no words for what he feels. He wants to embrace Otoya, but knows he can't in front of the guests. He simply thanks him.

Shinobu is even more surprised to find out that Otoya had made the birthday cake (with help from the young woman he directed to the mansion, who turned out to be a famous young baker). It doesn't look that great, but it doesn't matter to Shinobu. Otoya is displeased at the result, saying he should have practiced ahead of time and that he'd do better next year. As they prepare for the blowing out of the candles, the butler whispers in Shinobu's ear that Otoya had a hard time decorating the cake. He had to redo the frosting over and over, because it requires a delicate touch. He had stared at his hands for a while, then kicked everyone out saying he wanted to decorate it by himself. The butler doesn't say anything further, but Shinobu figures that Otoya must have taken off his gloves to decorate the cake. For him. He can't even begin to express how he feels, he's so happy. He thanks everyone and blows the candles out. At that moment he feels Otoya take his hand.

I loved how even apart all Shinobu could do was think about Otoya. And the birthday party! The rude kicking Shinobu out of the house! The cake! The butler telling Shinobu all the things Otoya would be far too embarrassed to mention. How Otoya tries so hard for Shinobu but be straightforward! *dies*

On the other hand, Sonoyubi dake ga shitteiru 3: Kusuriyubi ga chinmokusuru (Only the ring finger 3: the ring finger is silent) drama cd (available here) is excellent. I enjoyed the scenes with Masanobu (I have a sort of summary of the book here, and a quick summary of the second cd drama here), especially his conversation with Yuuichi after he had kissed Wataru when he says who could he not fall in love after seeing Wataru cry for him? XD Listening to this really made me want MORE. When is the next book going to be published?? ;_;

I don`t remember if that story is manga or BL novel, but if EVER it`s available in English?

I want... the way you just described it (did not need to bother with the previous post as I remembered it well) was just oh so lovely.

This just makes the romantic in me so so happy. I wish we could also get a snippet perhaps farther into the future as well...But I somehow doubt it. It's a novel, btw.
