Oh god. I just saw the trailer for Dragonball: Evolution as I'd heard it was coming out this week, and was traumatized. It is so so so wrong, so much worse than I'd expected. Why did they have to take such a classic story and turn it into any other action movie with all its cliches? That was the impression I got from the trailer...I can't imagine this being a case of the misleading (and bad) trailer (a la Bridge to Terabithia). The worst part? I knew that Goku was going to be Caucasian, but seeing, and hearing, him in action...Was so painful.

On a happier subject, I'm kind of curious about the FMA remake. I really enjoyed the original anime series and will miss Roy's voice actor (it's Roy that's different, right?), but I'm curious. I hear there are many groups subbing it--it'll be interesting trying to figure out which group's sub to download. Any recs?

I watched the first episode of the FMA remake and was not really impressed. It's an anime-original episode to introduce the characters and it was quite chaotic. I don't understand why they didn't just start in Lior like the first series. We'll see how it turns out, I guess. It was nice seeing a new episode after all this time, though.

Roy has a different seiyuu, as does Hawkeye, and Lust I believe. The new one just doesn't seem Roy enough. XD

I downloaded Shinsen's subs, since that was the group I used for the first series as well. The subs were all right, but apparently FUNimation is also subbing it and the first ep should be available to stream on the 9th.

Hm, I'll go with Shinsen as well then. I really have no expectations for the series as I don't really remember how the manga was. I'm hoping I'll like it.

I checked out Darksoul, Shinsen, and Taka. Darksoul was using Reole for Lior so that was a minus.

Shinsen did what I think amounts to a speed-sub since they had it out so fast. I thought the translation was a little clunky and wordy, though certain bits struck me as well done.

Taka came out a little later. They seemed to have used a better raw. I thought it was clearer and there was no station tag in the upper corner. They also seemed to have worked the translation to read more naturally. And I think they kept the wealth of expletives in that I did hear in the Japanese. This is the one I'm sticking with, provided they stick with it too.

And there's at least 5 other English groups I've seen, but I'm not familiar with them.

Roy does come off as a little softer, but I think in the manga that's how he's presented at first. Then you get to the layers underneath. I'm having to dig my manga out to reread and refresh.

From what I heard, the new series has different voice actors for everyone except for Ed, Al, and Hughes. I haven't actually watched the episode yet, although I did download the Shinsen fansub for it.

I'm looking forward to it. I've been following the manga all along, and it's very different from the original anime. I'm very interested in seeing it animated.
