Found this out just now:
If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can now send 10 of your non-Paid friends a $10 coupon. Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25).
-All Paid and Permanent accounts can send out the coupons by clicking here (it's also under Friends -> Holiday promotion in the site header)
-You can also send to people not on your Friends list by manually entering the username in the field provided
-If your friend declines the invitation, it will be returned to your available invitation pool and you'll be able to send to someone else
-You can send the invitations until January 15th

Typically online versions of such academic journals are gated, but this journal is available for all until the end of April. The January 2008 issue is all about blogs and (mostly U.S.) politics. I've only read the introduction but many of the articles look to be very interesting.

LJ has finally come out with a draft proposal of Abuse Policies and Procedures. Looks like any sexually explicit pics of minors, cartoons or whatever, will be banned. Though this is still a draft I somehow don't think they will be removing that bit no matter what comments they get from users. So. This means I need to seriously think about packing up and moving, because just thinking of having to self-censor makes me tired. Waaay too much trouble. Plus, the whole reason I have a paid account is to host the images I use in my posts since Photobucket was TOS'ing some of them.
My problem is that I am frickin' clueless as to what to do. Is there an image hosting service that really truly doesn't care what the hell you host as long as it's not real child porn? Or do I need my own web hosting? Do web hosting services care what you stick on their servers or can they get all moral on their clients too? I want to migrate as few times as possible, because I'm fundamentally lazy and am not very tech-savy. Please, anyone, give me a clue.

Fun interview with mega-baseball fan Zack Hample on NPR. Lots of random trivia and one great moment. The interviewer asked why baseball fields weren't all uniform in size. After a slight pause, Zack replied "Because baseball is beautiful." I love pure fan love, it is beautiful.

Aug. 4th, 2007 08:15 amUgh, it seems like the migration off LJ is actually taking place (at least in my tiny corner of LJ) this time. Thanks 6A, you sure take care of your customers good. (Two posts that talked about this without histrionics were synecdochic's explanation the legal situation in the U.S. and shusu's opinions as a customer.) I feel particularly uncomfortable with the report abuse button and the no warning/appeal part. Since I mostly post about BL with pics without flocking, I just don't know if I'm safe. I don't want to flock the fannish posts, either. I don't want to be worrying about losing not only my posts but the uploaded images, as well. But...the inertia! It is mighty.
Part of me feels a bit silly to be getting so paranoid, but...I suppose in the end I've lost confidence in 6A/LJ to at least be open and somewhat fair in their policies and just don't trust them. Okay, maybe I am just paranoid. But it doesn't mean they aren't out to get me!!
In any case, I have accounts at GJ and IJ under the same name. I tried getting a JF account, but they don't give out free accounts to random people currently (gotta be sponsored by a paid user or become a paid user), so no JF. I will now seriously seriously look into wordpress (because it is pretty!) and getting hosting (I need storage for images where there is no TOSing a la Photobucket). I need to figure out the easiest way for me to archive my current posts.
My life is currently MADLY BUSY IRL so I don't know when I will get to these things. *sighs* I'll probably continue to post as usual for the time being...
