Ugh, read a couple of posts that Nakama is the latest scanlation group to start making noise about their retarded redistro rules. I hope they don't start holding their releases hostage like another even more retarded group which shall go unnamed tried to do. These people need reality checks, badly. In any case, I happily re-lived my love for Bondz by Kawai Touko as the last two parts were posted on
yaoi_daily. I love the line "I understood for the first time that it was love when I heard the sound of the door close." Ah, the bittersweetness! For the (I should think) few that haven't read the manga yet, I uploaded it on YSI. Read it! I really want my boxes to arrive from Japan so that I can read my very own copy. :P
On a non-fandom note, I spent two fruitless hours trying to find some basic dark brown sandals today. Wow, does no one carry them here? It's so frustrating! I actually found a couple of decent tan ones as a compromise, but they didn't have my size (of course). It must be the world against me for not buying clothes for over a year--now that I'm trying to complete my wardrobe and replacing my poor well-loved shoes that are falling apart. *sighs* I should just give up and buy more manga or something...
And it is hot, as usual. I really dislike summer. I miss winter--it's so pleasant then.

Seriously these people are impossible. I thought the reason one scanlates a manga title is because they want to share witb others a great manga and the like. But it seems it is all about the ego. -_-;;
Bah.

Date: 2005-07-10 01:02 pm (UTC)And thanks for Bondz. I read it after hearing you talk about it and I liked it too.

Date: 2005-07-10 03:34 pm (UTC)So Nakama's still at it, eh? YET, THEY, like the others, won't directly enforce THEIR rules. They would sooner have communities and forums enforce THEIR rules for them. WTF?
I think many scanlation groups have forgotten WHY they're scanlating. I swear if I win the lottery, I will PAY translators and graphic manip people to create FREE scanlations for everyone. I'm sorry that I can't learn Japanese, but so many stories are just too good to not translate.
Gah...
HUGS. Good luck with the sandal hunt. It took me months to find a brown umbrella, so I know such pains.

Date: 2005-07-10 03:43 pm (UTC)Aren't scanlation groups there to introduce the mangaka and their work to a broader audience who will later BUY (hopefully) their wares?
Well... in my case, I so studiously avoid Nakama now that I have no clue whose mangaka they are now peddling as I just can't stand them (the group, not the mangaka ^_^)... talk about shooting oneself in the foot. They are corrupting their whole reason of "supposedly" being in their lust for brown-nosing by the stupid fans (oh... Nakama... to hear the fans talk, they are god-gift to the fangirls *as if*).
Oh... watch me jump on my favorite bandwagon :P

Date: 2005-07-10 04:00 pm (UTC)I've heard that's a terrible fandom to be in unless one thrives on wank! Which I don't... thank god I've been able to stay FAR away from this one.

Date: 2005-07-11 12:53 am (UTC)Obviously forums and comms must enforce their rules because they are all so important to fandom and their wishes must be obeyed. *rolls eyes* They've lost touch with a lot of things, including the reason people scanlate.

Date: 2005-07-10 03:45 pm (UTC)From Nakama's web site:
Don't Forget ( ;Þ ) we at Nakama decided to help our non-IRC capable fans by setting up a limited 'http' distribution service. For more information, see/join the Yahoo! Group. (Link is to the right).
So I joined and read this:
Nakama Web Downloads
Please also remember that these scanlations are intended for private use only! Do NOT redistribute, sell, auction or otherwise make available for public download or viewing. If you want to share our releases with your friends or an online community please refrain from sending or posting the images. Instead, send them to our website, IRC channel or Yahoo group for downloads.
This made me giggle:
Nakama is a non-profit scanlation group bringing you high-quality
unlicensed manga. All of our releases are labors of love for the
yaoi fan community intended to make available titles that would be
otherwise unattainable.
Gee, if they really supported that they'd allow redistribution, ne?
Ho hum.

So stupid! Thank god anime subbers are a tad less stupid, selfish or egocentric. They put everything on BT and there you go... sure, they love being sucked to in their IRC channels but they also distribute at large.

They are now coming down on YD members.
Feh, and I have to go away for a week now and miss all the fun. *sigh*

Date: 2005-07-10 04:05 pm (UTC)Reading the thread is very enlightening... too bad people are too afraid to just tell Nakama to SHOVE it... and start sharing the raws with some souls summarizing the stuff (who cares about the actual dialogue, anyway? My fav. Haru translations are the ones I get from France which are long detailed summaries, not straight-forward dialogue translations... THAT reminds me I should start working on translating the first 3 chapters of Vol. 10 now that I got those... so I can share them later with my French-deprived friends :P).

Date: 2005-07-11 12:52 am (UTC)And yeah... looking at a manga scanned by them? You'd think they CREATED the work instead of just translating it. I'm not discouting the time & efforts involved with scanning & translating a manga BUT it's nothing without the source material... the creation is not done by them. Therefore I draw a line at their acting up like they OWN the piece...

Date: 2005-07-11 12:57 am (UTC)Seems like too many groups fall into the trap of thinking they own the manga, and that they have rights. *shrugs* I wish if they were going to be so bitchy about it all they should stop pretending to want to share the yaoi love like they say they do on their sites. Obviously they want to set up a mini online kingdom where they are worshipped as the source of yaoi or something.

Date: 2005-07-11 03:29 am (UTC)The hypocritical nature of scanlation teams is startling.
