GAR. I went back to Book-Off to check on Black Cat last night, and what did I find? Volume 15!! But everything above 16 was gone...so now I have everything up to volume 20, which I don't even have scans for. ;_; But now my suspicions about tachi-yomi guy the other day have been confirmed (in my mind). He was reading volume 20 when I went back and found 18! I just know it! Because earlier I didn't see 18, but it shows up an hour later? He was done with that (and 19) and was reading 20! Had to be! I don't see why Book Off would come in with everything except 20, after all...*mutters darkly*

Today I heard of a BL OVA called Papa to In the Dark (Kiss in the Dark with Papa). I was curious about the story (and was up waay too early for my own good), so I did some searching. There was a nice blurb on the Yes Asia listing that told me the basic story, that Midorikawa, Miki and Koyasu are in the cast, and that it was based on novels. So...I went off to Amazon Japan to find out more about the novels. There are four novels, the first one with the same title as the OVA, then (in what order I don't know) Shower on the Beach with Papa, Deep in the Forest with Papa, and Loving All Night with Papa. I found all of these titles extremely funny, but also very disturbing. ^_^; The best thing about looking into the novels were reading the reviews. OMG I love happy fangirls. One reviewer:

"This was the first BL work I ever read! Papa is the best...v (laugh)

"But! I really thought Mira-kun and Kyousuke-san were really father and son at first (sweatdrop). Kind of like "Huh? Incest...?" (laugh) Well, in any case it's incest (1) and Mira-kun is cute, so it can't be helped~ (Huh) Well, if you read it you'll understand his cuteness (star) Kyousuke-san is really great, too~! He's sexy (laugh) and a real technician...Mira-kun is always capitulating (music note) Even you'll be far gone on Papa, who's so good at being indulgent! Also, Mira-kun's one-person comedic act (?) is funny~ (star) It's definitely worth reading! You're view of life might change!! (laugh) <-- Mine did (laugh)"

In Shower on the Beach with Papa, there's a side story called "Between the Sheets with Papa" that features sex in a hospital. I love the "(something in english) with papa" pattern.

Oh, and I keep seeing references to Yamane Ayano doing Gankutsuou doujinshi on the flist (I don't know if it's just from the comm or what), but I don't think this has been posted, so I decided to scan it in. Pretty pic!

It just occurred to me now that I don't have a "bl" tag. I don't want to go back and edit my posts...I'm so bad at tag management. *sighs*

I once again checked Book-Off for the Black Cat manga I don't own, and I did manage to finally pick up volumes 16-19 (but 18 only after coming back a second time because some guy was tachiyomi-ing and though I couldn't see what manga it was, I just knew it had to be Black Cat and it turns out I was right because 18 was there when I went back...Is there some kind of etiquette involved with tachiyomi-ing? What if you want to see--or even buy--the volume someone is reading? Do you just politely ask for it?), but that means I'm still missing volumes 15 and 20. So...I'm hoping that someone has scans of these volumes (preferably in Japanese, but beggars can't be choosers) so that I can at least finish the series without having to wait for an order for the two volumes. Please help if you can!

I also spent a bit of time tachiyomi-ing Paradise Kiss. I would have bought the volumes there, but they were a bit too ratty. If they were in slightly better condition, or a bit cheaper, I would have bought them. As it was, I skimmed through the three volumes they had there really quickly (because I didn't have the time). It's...interesting. I'm not sure if I'll like it if/when I do actually read it. The one part that stuck in my head and made me laugh was how George gets all upset when someone calls him "Jooji" (same basic pronunciation, but in kanji rather than katakana). I wonder how they handled that in the translation? I'm kind of curious about the anime, but I've read some comments of people who weren't that thrilled about the adaptation. Not sure if I should try the manga or the anime first.

It's raining. It's been raining off and on the past week. I hate rain. *sighs*

In any case, saw Yakitate episodes 49-53 today. Some thoughts. )

Does anyone have the current opening and closing for Yakitate, Promise by Tia and Re:Start by Surface?

One benefit of having two computers is one can be hooked up to the TV to watch anime, and the other can be used to do something else. While I was watching Yakitate I was scanning in a doujinshi. I don't know how people can just sit there scanning stuff in. It's so tedious. :P

And for something completely different, is anyone following the Black Cat anime? I've only seen the first three episodes and I'm curious as to how it's going. I swear I need to pick up the rest of the manga. *sighs*

Looks like one "benefit" of not having a computer at home is that I have time to do other things...like read manga. Last night I read through the 12 volumes of Black Cat I bought the other day. So far, so good. I do enjoy it quite a bit. One thing that does throw me off is when Train gets all dark and serious, it reminds me of Kenshin and how he'd revert to his Battousai persona at times. The difference is that Train will kill when necessary, which I like.

My damn computer is down, and my friends and I highly suspect it's hard drive failure. Again. Someone, please tell me how in the world a hard drive I've had for TWO MONTHS can fail? Damn Apple, did they replace my failed hard drive with a failing hard drive??

In any case, the jury is still out on the real cause, but whatever the cause of my problems I am computerless at home (I so shouldn't use my work computer to be checking and updating on LJ...I really shouldn't). It's kind of depressing how much of my life revolves around the computer. My house feels...empty, somehow. Been trying to make up for it by reading stuff, and I even bought the first 12 volumes of Black Cat used because I read the funniest random reaction to the first Black Cat anime episode from a total Creed fan and when I feel shitty I shop and it was cheap but everytime I want to quickly check something online or whatever and I realize no I can't do that it just sucks. >_<

One good thing is that I went through my Hikago doujinshi piles and discovered a PoT one I've been searching for mixed in there. Angst is rabu.

D.Gray-man rabu! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thanatoseve, I managed to get the raws of more recent chapters…though the stupid arc isn’t over, at least I got past the killer ending of volume 6. XD The nice thing is that the site, Timcanpi, has scanlations of quite a bit of the manga as well as raws. So you can pick either to read the English or the Japanese. No clue if the translation is any good, though.

I downloaded the first three episodes of the Black Cat anime and watched them. I had kind of read part of the series back when I was buying JUMP, but I’d forgotten almost everything about the story. I’m not sure if the storytelling is compelling enough to keep my interest…but I do like Train and Sven’s voices. And I’ll probably keep watching (for now) because the fight scenes are pretty cool (kind of reminds me of how I used to watch Noir mainly for the kick-ass fight sequences—and the music—though I was amused by the lesbian shit, as well as the overwhelming melodrama of it all…). I randomly picked a subber, Bakakazoku, at animesuki and was happy to find good video and audio quality, as well as good translation (at least, the couple of lines that I did happen to read were fine).

And since this is a JUMP post, I will add some extremely superficial comments about Bleach, some of which may be spoilerish. I spent about an hour the other day with my Bleach obsessed friend where she spoiled me for a good deal of the manga. I finally found out who Yorimichi was, and I must say I like her character design. VERY appealing. Rukia’s brother’s hair in those pins is just…stupid. He looked so much better when it was down at the end of his fight with Ichigo (I was flipping through volume 19). I was surprised at the really young looking, rather cute characters who turned out to be Captains or Vice-Captains. The biggest surprise for me is finding out that Ichigo’s father was a shinigami, and perhaps was even a Captain. Since I only saw the very beginning of the series, equating that dorky image with the I kick ass in black shinigami thing is very difficult. The color pages are a very nice touch. I wish they had done that for…say, Hikago. I did like the two page spread in volume 19 where a bunch of them are bank robbers or something.

Speaking of Hikago, I wish they had made a second art book, with art from the latter part of the series where the boys grow up and become bishounen art got so much nicer. It’s hard to settle for just that last manga calendar (though that was very lovely). *sighs*
