An AkiHika Heian AU game based doujinshi. Previously posted parts 1 and 2. The rest of the pretty!

Damn Hikago is on my brain thanks to the flist [livejournal.com profile] blind_go mania and my finishing up of the doujinshi organization and discovering a full extra box of Hikago stuff. I found an extra copy of an Akihika doujinshi I rather like. I decided (in a fit of late night madness) to scan it and share. It turned out to be fairly long and it took forever to scan (or at least felt like it). Since I had another copy I felt comfortable squishing it down onto the scanner bed more than usual...but I still couldn't bend it (or take it apart) to get really good scans. :P

I like it because a) the art is pretty and b) there isn't enough stuff based on the Heian AU game. I love the details of the clothing and scenery, and the characters' expressions.

The doujinshi is called Kai (at least I think so...the character is "imashimeru," to admonish or warn, but I went with the on-yomi in this case) by the circle Rakuengun. I got lazy over the translation and didn't do a lot of the sfx. Any suggestions for English equivalents would be appreciated.

Finally bought some more boxes and organized the rest of my doujinshi. It feels nice to have most of it all in boxes (though I know I'm still missing a bunch), sorted by fandom. XD I once again scanned a couple of doujinshi covers before putting them away.

crack and cuteness )

The things people find when they are cleaning--things they didn't know they owned. XD

A postcard I found stuck in a doujinshi by the circle Aonekodou. It has a really cool matte black cover with silver graphics and lettering, but the title cracks me up: "U-to-pi-a: Two romanticists who disturb in love." The actual manga inside is decent (though the art is unremarkable), so I might someday scan it. But the reason the postcard drew my eye was Tezuka's expression and Karupin hanging on Ryoma's arm.

I do like this cover of a new Ultraseven doujinshi I bought in July called Sugar Raised (at least, I think that's the English they were going for). The story seems like total smutty trash inside, but I do like Ryoma wearing Tezuka's jersey on the cover. I love how he brings his hand to his lips.

Speaking of TezuRyo doujinshi, there's one by Kaitenmokugyo on sale here (Hikari, lot #44-I love the cover with a totally disgruntled-looking Ryoma). This is the circle responsible for doujinshi like "Catch and Release"...My favorite PoT manga circle. ^__^
insaneneko: (Default)

I have a fun anthology called Are ga watashi no goshujinsama (That is my Master), which basically features various stories with Tezuka as Ryoma's butler (or serving in a butler-like capacity). I figured that Tezuka as a butler would sort of have that feel of when he corrected his teacher in class. Very serious, calm, and scary. (But a master like Ryoma wouldn't be scared.) I then realized (helped by the center picture on the cover) that Tezuka as a butler made me think of Naoe from Mirage. Naoe is a great assistant type person good at taking care of people, if you minus his obsessive insanity. XDXD

more scans from the anthology, including a series of (I think) very funny shota-con Tezuka manga shorts )

The same people who put together the anthology was struck with cracktastic inspiration of the punny kind when they switched the "shi" in "shitsuji" (butler) with "hi," thus making "hitsuji" (sheep). From that came another volume of doujinshi, this one titled "Kunimitsu-ji." It's a shortening of "Kunimitsu shitsuji," a robotic butler model, and what Ryoma calls his robot butler. The robot has two modes, one in which he is a furry sheep and one in which he looks human. I want to squee everytime I see the cover, it's so retarded yet so cute:

The monocles are the perfect touch! The amazing thing about this doujinshi is that though some elements are cracktastic, the underlying storyline is serious sci-fi.

One of the doujinshi I read the past several weeks was a Hikago Heian fic, "Chirikau hana ni." I picked it up because the cover was pretty (as can be seen above). I also liked the back cover:

Looks like the two of them are children playing that kick ball game the nobility used to play back then.

The story was actually pretty decent, even though some of the more unbelievable elements were so fannish it was laughable. It was a bit hard to read because the author made an effort to make the courtiers use the old ways of saying things...which I'm not that familiar with. In any case, Hikaru and Akira had their identities the same as in the game, as Konoe no Hikaru the guard and Kamo no Akira the onmyouji, but they both turn out to actually be very high-born.

My favorite part has to be after Akira kind of forcefully engages Hikaru into sex. Hikaru wakes up, is groggy and not really aware. Akira is solicitous, asking him if he wants water or if he feels any pain. Before Hikaru slips back to sleep Akira gets him to eat a piece of mochi...and that rang bells in my head. In Heian days there wasn't so much a formal wedding ceremony as a custom of eating mochi after the first night together to indicate a marriage. Oh Akira. XDXD

In any case, I ended up doing a whole bunch of research in regards to this. I found a nice site in Japanese explaining in more detail Heian marriage customs. I also discovered that the title of the doujinshi is taken from a line of waka by Ki no Tsurayuki in the Kokinshu (116, to be exact). There's a nifty site with all the poems from the Kokinshu and explanations of their meanings (in Japanese) (116 here). I couldn't find an online translation of the verse, unfortunately (But I did find a site with a lot of his other poems in Japanese, romaji and translated, here). And I've forgotten virtually all of my classical Japanese. :P

Speaking of classical Japanese, I thoroughly enjoyed reading a blog post in which there is much fanboying over The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon. I must confess that I haven't read that particular book yet. I really should.

And back to regular old fangirling:

100 Ways by Castalia is a list of ways Yuki loves Shuuichi. Not done yet, but what's there is hilarious. Yuki is just...so...mean. But his meanness is really funny, and at times very understandable.

I want: Damn cute Soubi doll *_*

I love rec journals when they really come through. First from [livejournal.com profile] tomomichi:
Oooh...I was happy to see an untitled S/C fic by [livejournal.com profile] knowing_shadows, the author of Fusion. It's smutty in the best possible way. My personal view of Sephiroth is that he wouldn't necessarily talk dirty (but as I have little canon knowledge I have nothing to back that idea up ^^;), but I can forgive anything because I rarely truly like fics simply for the hot sex.

And a KKM cosplayer doing a karaoke video of Atobe's Valentine's Kiss? Bizarre.

[livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine recced 19 (x19) Things That Never Happened, pt 2 by Pru, the wonderful Hikago AU I hadn't read in forever. Of course I immediately reread it. I love how plausible this AU is. (Doesn't hurt that the AU is followed by Ogata/Hikaru smut XD)

In sheer happiness, I scanned in the very very pretty cover of a doujinshi by Nijuuboshi:

wish~tobira no mukou~ )

Pretty novel illustrations by Asato Eiri posted on [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_daily here. The English title of the novel is The Father is the Vampire's Bride, but I like the ring of the Japanese title Shinpu wa yoru no hanayome (The Father is the Bride of the Night). I wonder if the story is any good?
insaneneko: (Default)
First off...Um, WTF? animenfo lists Hikaru no Go as 光の碁. O_o

I like the latest song I've heard by Utada Hikaru, This Is Love. It's upbeat, catchy, and I love the way the background vocals play with the meaning of the song. Download here. Lyrics and translation here (note: there are some iffy parts in the translation).

I've discovered some new artists on [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_daily with art I love and stories that seem promising (or at least don't seem to suck):

Risky Crime by Sugahara Ryu is a one-shot that features very pretty art, vampires, and flashbacks of a really cute kid. XD Too bad the translation sucks big time. I wonder if the "summer milo" is a total mistranslation, like (and I know this is a stretch but I can only make a guess after all) そら見ろ。It's way too short, the story left me a bit disappointed. First part here, second part here.

Silence by Azuma Takamiya has the kind of character design I tend to fall in love with instantly. Pretty, narrow, detailed but not too willowy. The story, about sex between friends and the angsting that accompanies it, is pretty standard. But it's pretty. Latest part (with links to previous posts and downloads) here.

Kikagaku Ehon by Takaboshi Asako is a one-shot with yet more character design I adore. The story seems cute, but I think the English is throwing me off. *sighs* Last part (with links to previous posts and downloads) here.

The art of Glamorous Lips, a one-shot by Yanao Rock, reminds me of a particular PoT fanartist...eerily so. In any case, lovely art, cute character designs, fun clothing (the story involves a model and a personal stylist assistant). First part here.

I took a look at the first half of Aimai na Kankei by Masara Minase, and it was pretty good. It didn't catch me, but at least it didn't repel me like a lot of her other one-shots. Wanting to see what else was out there by her, I found and skimmed the two scanlated chapters of Gokujou no Koibito, and damn I really don't care for it. The characters? No. The situation? No. The sex? Definitey NO (probably because I don't care for the characters or the situation). *sighs*

Mangetsu Monogatari by Nakamura Shungiku is currently also being posted, but I found out that the scanlators have direct downloads of the entire thing. It's a fun mix of crack and seriousness, though it doesn't quite gel together for me I enjoyed reading it. I love the idea of Kaguya-hime being a crass swindling guy and his unlikely friendship with a very uptight courtier.

[livejournal.com profile] starchanchan has posted the AkiHika doujinshi Infection by one of my favorite circles Katayoku no Tenshi at [livejournal.com profile] hikago_djs in seven parts. *_* So pretty! I love the mix of seriousness and humor that she is so good at. I need to get my butt moving and mail order her new stuff, including this one. XD

YESYESYES! I was once again idly checking to see if there will be any other doujinshi events scheduled when I will be in Japan (other than the TezuRyo event Hashira II I'm already going to) when I discovered, to my utter delight, that a Kuwabara Mizuna event, Night Wings Final, will be happening on the same day!! It's even at the same place the last Kuwabara Mizuna event I went to, so no wandering around trying to find the place! ^___^

One of these days I want to go and watch the lanterns being released into the ocean for Memorial Day. It must be beautiful to see all those pretty paper lanterns floating in the dark sea, as the pictures accompanying the
article on this year's ceremony shows. I find it fascinating when different cultural traditions are combined, in this case the Japanese Toro Nagashi from Obon and the American Memorial Day.

I've dug up more translations I kind of abandoned a long time ago! This time, a short TezuRyo doujinshi I scanned in one of my fits of scanning madness. I did a quick pass at correcting the more awful manglings so now it's moderately passable (I'm very open to suggestions on better wordings and translations, thanks). :P I didn't bother sticking the cover in the post because it's boring and brown and has no picture on it. Anyone curious, just download it! It's only about 1 MB. ^^

The subject explains it all, but I'm even too lazy to use an lj cut judiciously. :P I think my interest in being online is at an ebb. I've been reading (and I've read almost all the personal f-list posts that I've caught) but haven't commented much, or posted much. I've been slacking on email correspondence, and not wanting to chat. *shrugs* I suppose I'll get all into it once again at some point.

Haru chapter 43 scans were uploaded on [livejournal.com profile] youka_nitta here, and oh boy...it was long and made me very happy. I love Katou and Iwaki snuggling like an old married couple. I love how comfortable they are with each other. And once again we have one of them managing to push the other forward by just believing in him. I love their relationship. I wish we got to see some of the shoot, though. What is the director trying to do to Iwaki?

The Yamane Ayano fans did it to me again. Here I was, totally oblivious that the next Viewfinder chapter was coming out soon (is already out?), until I saw the squeeing preview posts (WITH PICS!) that made me all expectant and wanting (hm, if only I had a big bad seme that might be a good thing?). Now I'm going to be checking LJ like MAD for the next couple days until the stupid scans are posted. -_-

Downloaded some cute Wolfram/Yuuri DJ from [livejournal.com profile] kyou_kara_maou here. How I love the cuteness. XD

And in an unusual fandom for me: Seventh Son by [livejournal.com profile] rhymer23, a Howl's Moving Castle fic that I think is very much in DWJ's style and hilarious to boot. Drunk Howl and angry Sophie through the eyes of a poor schmuck innocent bystander. XD

And has everyone in SGA fandom read the Teacher's Pet series? The one about John turning 8? OMG IT IS PURE LOVE. I wish I knew the characters better, but it's so fun and cute I don't think you have to know anything to enjoy it immensely (since I did, and everything I know is from fanfics). Parts 1-3, 5 and 7 are accessible here, and also Parts 4 and 6.

And onto the PoT. First off, some really old stuff I've been meaning to post about. [livejournal.com profile] prillalar made an interesting post about how PoT is not a typical sports series and why. Made me think quite a bit.

[livejournal.com profile] bookshop made a massive mulit-post PoT introductory thing (first post here) that covers the story, the characters, the gay, the fanfics, etc. It's pretty amazing stuff. I love that she didn't focus only on her OTP.

Speaking of OTP, the massive amounts of amazingly good TezuRyo just pouring out just leaves me breathless. I don't always agree with the characterizations or the relationship dynamics, but I can't help but be happy because it's good writing. A turn of phrase there, an image here...it makes me delirious with joy. Several of the many I've been enjoying:

Gravitation by [livejournal.com profile] achiasa is a lovely crack piece about the power of two opposing Tezuka Zones.

Rebirth by [livejournal.com profile] kessie, an amazing continuation to two other fics (links available at post). I love the switching between past and present, and how Tezuka is torn in a not uber-angsty way and how Ryoma knows just how to push. XD

Facing Forward by [livejournal.com profile] achiasa is the fic that has been making me just squee to death because it's pre-slash so it's ALL ABOUT THE TENNIS. I love how the coaches, after seeing the two of them play, start talking about famous tennis rivalries. And possibly my most favorite line? "Tezuka remembers looking down on Echizen from above, challenging him to climb higher; he remembers the shock and pride of realising that Echizen had taken him at his word and leapt."

I was totally stuck in traffic coming home tonight, and started rummaging through my car looking for something to keep me from raging. I first found SR Disc 2, and that made me happy as I listened to Arigatou (OH THE TEZURYONESS OF IT ALL) and Dreaming on the Radio and We Love Seigaku. I then found a mixed CD simply titled "Tenipuri." I had no clue what was on it (other than something to do with PoT) so I stuck it in. Oh, the memories. Lots of the older stuff, like Ryoma's first album songs, CROSS WITH YOU (Atobe-sama, you rock), Days of Moments (I love the two duets on Fuji's album), and so many other songs. XD

I've been on a mad cleaning streak since yesterday, and today I decided to tackle my doujinshi. I bought some cardboard boxes and decided to sort everything out and pack them away neatly. I started with Hikago, and I have a feeling that's all I'm going to get to today. I was pretty worn out from yesterday, and the carrying around of books is not helping my sore muscles at all. It looks like I have, at minimum, 200 Hikago doujinshi. I have a feeling I have a bit more, hidden somewhere, because I swear I'm missing some I know I own. I found a lot I had forgotten I owned. I also had to resist the urge to crack open a lot that I knew I had but hadn't seen in a while. That lays the way to not finishing the task, and I can't leave the living room with doujinshi spread out everywhere.

I did put aside a couple of doujinshi I liked the covers of. As a break from my labors, I scanned them in.

lots of pics )

And speaking of Hikago, I must squee because:

a) [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock finished Inertia!!!! GYAH! First the Ogata/Hikaru fic, and now the marriedandhet!Akira and flaminglygay!Hikaru and totallyadorable!Akira's daughter fic!

and

b) [livejournal.com profile] svz_insanity wrote more Draco/Ryoma. It shouldn't be this good: An Uncertainty That Persists.

Now back to organizing. *winces at sore muscles*

As an aside, I'm afraid of organizing the PoT. I think I have more PoT than Hikago...possibly a lot more...

Some silly TezuRyo.

I am not a big fan of this artist (mainly because I can't stand how Tezuka is drawn), but I love love love the cover for the not-really-Karupin-like-but-still-damn-cute-mad-at-stuffed-double-Karupin. And I like Simple Pain's novels. (The artist is guest appearing in a doujinshi produced by a novel-oriented circle, basically. For me, the manga is just omake to the novel)

Yes, yet another TezuRyo doujinshi I had scanned in and translated (in a fit of giddiness from having finished up "Catch and Release?"). This is another serious one, set two years later than in canon. I like the feel of this manga, as well as the roughness of the artwork. I like the sentiments expressed, even if I'm not 100% sure it's IC. I've been meaning to tweak the translation some more, but I have a feeling it's just going to sit on my hard drive for ages so...with my usual disclaimers about the scans and translation, the scans can be downloaded here.

Last night I got the third book in a "series" that has managed to captivate me so badly that I can completely overlook any OOC-ness in Tezuka or Ryoma. I got home late, but could not help but start reading it. Three hours later I finished it (though I have to read the last part again...it was so late by then I was desperate to find out how it ends...only to find out the "series" isn't over yet ;_;) and am just...wired. God I love that series.

babble )

Um...yeah. I certainly wrote a lot more than I expected. I guess caffeine and sugar on top of major lack of sleep and being on a fanfic-high is not good. :P

Yay! I got an email that the doujinshi I paid for over a month ago and been waiting for was finally mailed. FINALLY. How I love novel-length fanfics. XDXD

I ended up going on an insane scanning streak last night. I think it helped that I set up the scanner and computer on a table (instead of my usual sprawled on the floor set up--though one bad thing about putting anything on a table is that they can fall off...good thing the scanner still worked after its little trip to the floor... ^_^;) because it made things easier. I scanned in several more doujinshi that I could open flat enough to get decent scans, but stopped in disappointment when the Hikago DJ I thought I'd be able to scan in (one of my absolute favs) turned out to be too thick, even though the binding was fairly flexible. :P I also was disappointed that I couldn't scan in a FujiRyo doujinshi I discovered I owned the other day. It's one of those two stories in one deals where each story begins at each end of the book. The stories were pretty pointless, but I thought the characters were fairly IC and the art was very nice. So I scanned in the covers.

This is another TezuRyo doujinshi I had translated while I had no computer. I finally typed up the translation and scanned it in this weekend. Because it's a bit too long to post each page of, I uploaded a zip of it. The usual disclaimers of crappy scanning and sloppy translation apply.

This doujinshi, unlike the previous ones I've posted, is serious, and I really like it. It touches on the unofficial Tezuka-Ryoma game. The conversations between Tezuka and Inui and Tezuka and Oishi are revealing and interesting. I like how Tezuka's motivations are presented, and as a bonus Oishi gets very cool! I love how he gets so heated when he's concerned. I also thought Fuji's minor appearance was very Fuji-like. In any case, download via Rapidshare or YSI.

[livejournal.com profile] kitsune_jade posted an FST for the Hikago AU fanfic Moon I had translated a long time ago. Not only is it amazingly appropriate, the music is wonderful. I'm very much addicted! Haunting, dreamlike and melancholy...You don't have to read the fic to appreciate this FST.

I had begun writing a post about the Hikago AU doujinshi I got in the mail last night and devoured, but I realized a couple of paragraphs down that what I really wanted to do was summarize the whole damn thing in detail, and this is a pretty complex almost 300 page story! So I decided to hold off on that for...some other time. :P Suffice it to say, it was very AU but very good. I love excellent use of flashbacks.

I also found out I won that auction I was agonizing over previously...I had made my max bid pretty high, and unfortunately the ending bid ended up very close to that max. I guess I'm out a bit of money. *sighs* But I can't really regret it because it's really hard to collect 15 doujinshi, and I'm just plain addicted. At least I get more TezuRyo to read when I get them. doujinshi are EVIL!
